Hobbs, the brindle smooth dachshund
I know it’s such a cliche, but it’s also so true, our dachshunds are almost always under foot at least a few hundred times a day. Sunday we met this very handsome brindle dachshund named Hobbs. He had that very familiar mix of brave and shy. You can see from the top picture he holds his head high and proud, but does so from behind his human. We always love meeting new dachshunds.

Spencer the longhair
A little something for all the longhair dachshund fans: Spencer. Also as a polite reminder we still have some longhair dachshund T-shirts available. Check to see if we still have your size. Your tax-deductible donation includes 2-day UPS shipping. Spencer is certainly a very handsome example of a longhair dachshund.
Superdoxiemodel Emily
The camera absolutely loves Emily. I can get a good picture from many dachshunds, but with Emily it just comes a little easier. What do you think?! Is she a superdoxiemodel?!

A beautiful day
Rufus hopes everyone is having a very happy day – wherever you are, whatever the temperature – enjoy your dachshund(s) and smile. Mine make me laugh daily, and bring cheer to my life regularly with their quirkily entertaining personalities. Tail wags.

SoCal Winters
In Southern California we’re having some unseasonably warm temperatures in the 80s this month (even for us). Making the most of it, Rufus and I took a friend visiting from out-of-town to the beach this week, and today’s entry features some of the fun photos I captured. Elaborating on our 2014 theme of socialization, I’m a huge advocate of socializing (introducing your dachshund to a variety of people, places and things) as a pack and individually. I enjoying doing activities with all three of my dachshunds, but I also enjoy giving each of them some individualized time and attention. Rufus got a day at the beach this week – all to himself. Emily is scheduled to go on a hike with just me and a few friends this Saturday, and Lily gets to go with me on Sunday to our monthly meetup. I believe this is very important part to the overall development and proper socialization for all dachshunds thriving in a pack. The pack is a good thing and often a touchstone for many dogs flourishing in today’s culture, but don’t be afraid to split them up from time to time so they can experience the world on their own. In our community, socialization also refers to a healthy and happy balance. If you have multiple dachshunds, what’s your family’s routine?! Do you do pack and individual excursions?! Sound off on our DOGS Facebook page.

More Lily Blossom
Today is all about Lily Blossom. She continues to be a shy petite dachshund, but each day she seems to get a little braver and bolder. Thankfully via regular socialization – routine hikes, consistent dog park visits and fun beach frolicking, she is gradually getting used to the world. Have a wonderful days dachshund friends.

Happy dachshunds
I truly believe my dachshunds are happiest when they’re being active with me. Emily will sometimes be reluctant to leave the house – the two reds are always eager and willing; I believe Emily is a real home body but once we’re out and about they all seem to enjoy it. More importantly, I always notice a difference at home after our hikes. They always seem so content resting in their beds and a lot more calm post hikes – whereas on the days we don’t get to hike, they seem like they have pent up energy dying to get used. Socialization for us means exposing our dachshunds to a variety of people, places and things – and our hikes are a great outlet to do so. We exercise our bodies and minds on the hikes and although the trail is the same each time, it’s not really the same because they’re often new people, new dogs and fresh smells. Share your socialization adventures with us on our Facebook page.
Socialization
Our 2014 theme is socialization. Today after our afternoon hike, we stopped by the local dog park for a sunset romp in the maple-tree-looking leaves. It was the perfect cool down after our trek, and we happily share some of the pictures with you now. Since the holidays are over, Lucy has re-joined our pack for weekly hikes and other fun excursions to come. Stay tune for more dachshund centric fun friends.
