This weekend we attended a mini meetup with some local doxie friends and their humans. It was fun to see Davy Jones and Lucy again (along with others). It’s supremely important to expose our dachshunds to other people, places, things and situations. However, if your discriminating dachshund is fussy about the company he keeps, start with other fellow dachshunds. Doxies always seem to enjoy (or at least tolerate) other dachshunds better than non-dachshund breeds. We naturally want our dachshunds to get along with all kinds of dogs (and people), but sometimes we have to start slow and build their confidence with consistent exposure over time. The experience is also rewarding for the doxie humans, because it’s sweet to see our low-riding hounds hanging with their fellow brethren. Love and highly recommend doxie meetups.

So true, every time Davy Jones goes to a meet up, his next encounter with most other dogs is always much more positive. The doxie-doxie adventures have done him so much good. I highly recommend this to all doxie owners (and the humans have a good time, as well!). If it can help my discriminating Doxizilla, it can help yours, too!

yes, it is so true, they seem to know their own kind & with very few exceptions, usually all get along. We go to a monthly doxie meet-up at a local lake with a path around & all the doxies get along great, only scolding when another breed of dog dares to show up!! then they all get going & it is a chorus of barking doxie trying to get the non-doxie interloper to leave!!
