Just some random gratuitous photos of our Emily Sue for our friends on this Tuesday. She’s a real beauty in my opinion and the camera loves her. These shots are from yesterday; she (along with her pack mates) was tracking a squirrel in the backyard. Have a wonderful day dachshund friends.

Lily is our third dachshund, and I affectionately refer to her as our happy accident. Unlike the others whom were methodically planned; Lily was a foster failure that just happened when we least expected. My love for her is equal to the others, if not more as our precious little Lily Blossom, but… as is often the case, I have been much more relaxed with her upbringing. I believe it’s same with human children based on what all my friends tell me. With Rufus, I was systematic with his crate training, daily walks and weekly play dates. Eight years later when Emily arrived, I was less regimented but still focused. By the time Lily arrived, I was much more carefree. If you include Milo, Lily was my third puppy in the span of four years. Rufus and Emily both got a grand 1st birthday party, but with Lily I was so busy and tired after my gallery show, that we simply met informally at a local dog park with a few friends. I’ll occasionally feel bad for my little Lily – as though perhaps I have failed to deliver the same magnificent grandiose as I have the other two, but from the looks of it, I don’t think she really cares. She’s a very happy dachshund enjoying life, but to give me peace of mind, I finally got Lily her first big girl collar courtesy of our friends at LuxeMutt. She was previously wearing one of Emily’s hand-me-down collars (also from LuxeMutt). I believe she wears it well. What do you think friends!? Now both of my girls have their flower collars.

Today we publicly say goodbye to a friend: Buddy, the black and tan smooth dachshund that inspired the fame and stylish harness of the same name – Buddy-Belts. Our wirehair friends Asta and Fritz have been longtime fans of the harness and at Rufus’ 10th birthday bash, we finally got ours. We love the harnesses and think they look great and work well for our little wiggle butts. I love to have options when taking the furkids out and the buddy-belt harness is one more choice we have available to us. I do like that the harnesses allow more of our dachshunds’ natural coat to show. They’re fashionable and functional which are two of my favorite things. Rufus is wearing a marine blue, Emily in a deep plum and Lily in a hot pink. . They do offer matching leashes, but since we’re always alternating between harnesses and collars, I elected to go with a classic black leather. We plan to feature the harnesses again in the future, and each time we wear ours we will fondly remember our Canadian friend Buddy. Thank you Buddy for the indelible contribution to our long-bodied, short-legged community. Rest in peace friend and peace be with your surviving family.

This afternoon we had some fun with bubbles. Emily and Lily were unsure and a little frightened by them, but Rufus after a few minutes quickly became indifferent. I think with the setting sun in the background, the moment made for some sweet pictures. Rufus is wearing his new Buddy-belt which we’ll discuss in the days ahead. Enjoy the photos friends.

At the encouragement of family and friends, I have created a Patreon page. Patreon allows my teckel friends to support creative folks like me. As a dedicated dachshund artist, I give much of my photography services to the long-bodied, short-legged hound community for free. I naturally have all the expenses of a professional pet photographer but with no income to offset those expenses. With your support I will continue to produce original daily dachshund content for free, and hopefully expand my dachise photographic journey. At the behest of all of our friends that could not be there with us, we created a 20 minute video that captures Rufus’ 3 hour party – pretty much from start to finish. We considered live streaming the event, but that was just one too many things on the big day for me. Perhaps at a future meetup or event we will do it. Nonetheless, I think this video is like the next best thing. It’s really as though you’re there with us – even at the accelerated speed. It’s from the dachshund’s point-of-view so you see lots of legs and backsides, and you also see a lot of low-riding, wiener dogs. Enjoy dachshund friends.

Wow. We wanted to quickly get a note out to all. Sunday was Rufus’ 10th birthday bash in Beverly Hills, and we were genuinely humbled by the outpour of support and love. Not only by the 46 dachshunds and 41 people who attended the event, but also by all the many private messages, emails, comments and charitable donations received. The celebration was truly heartwarming. Rufus has been the catalyst for so much good for so many near and far – both canine and human. He inspires and entertains daily. Thank you friends for everything! With your help I believe we successfully commemorated a decade of Rufus. If we’re lucky may we have another 10 wonderful years together. That was our birthday wish as we blew out the candles today.

Although summer may officially be over for many in the USA, living in Southern California summer is more of a lifestyle than a season for us. The beach was empty and quiet today now that most summer tourists are back at work. Rufus, Emily & Lily really enjoyed the open space and chasing the big dogs that dared to cross our patch of sand. Proof is in the pictures. Make it a great one dachshund friends.

Emily was slaying it today on the trail; she looked good and moved well. After several months off, we decided to finally make our return to it. We didn’t do the whole trail today because Rufus was a little slow going, but it was a great first attempt after a long hiatus. We look forward to picking the habit back up now that the temperature are more amenable. Have a wonderful day dachshund friends and be certain to do something fun and active with yours this weekend.
