Hello dachshund friends.

Two things: 1) Tuesday, Nov. 25 was Emily Sue’s 3rd Birthday. Happy, happy birthday to my beloved black and tan. We spent the day chilaxing at home, one of Emily’s favorite pastimes. 2) Thanksgiving is nearly here and we have so much to be thankful for this year.

We’re skipping Thanksgiving and going directly to Christmas (apparently). Santa Claus came to town this Sunday at the Humane Society of Ventura County. We took our pack and met some friends for some fun and festive holiday photos. What do think dachshund friends, do you like them!? The best part is the occasion helped raised money for our local Humane Society; tis the season to be charitable and help all of those less fortunate dachshunds (and dogs) still searching for a loving forever family. The holidays are officially upon us friends.

Living in Southern California certainly has its perks; like walking on the beach barefoot, basking in the warm November sun and playing in tide pools during low tide. Meanwhile in other parts of the country folks are experiencing snow. To all of our friends working to keep warm this weekend, know warms days will return again so hang in there. Until such time, enjoy the photos as a nice remembrance and distraction from the current cold conditions. Wishing all of our dachshund friends the happiest of days.

Olga Rose is the single wirehair dachshund puppy from Sophie. I love photographing dachshund puppies. Olga is starting to walk and is very curious about the world around her. It’s super sweet to witness, and I’m happy to share the photos with all of our dachshund friends. Not all of us can have puppies, because we can all certainly enjoy the pictures. RIP Oliver

After spending a fun and full Sunday dedicated to my dachshunds and their friends we returned home to some sad and tragic news. Our friend Oliver, a smooth black and tan dachshund tweenie from Ventura, was hit by a car. He didn’t survive the accident. The news was heartbreaking and a bittersweet end to our day. Oliver was in the prime of his life and will be missed by all those who knew him. Oliver joined us for a few meetups and we really enjoyed the budding friendship we were creating. I wish we could have had more time together, and lovingly send all of our sincerest sympathies to his surviving humans.

If any dachshund friend wants to make a tax-deductible donation in Oliver’s name a personalized condolence postcard will be mailed to his family. I especially like these cards because they make for a great keepsake. When our doxies pass, all we have are our memories and pictures. With your help Oliver’s family can have a few more pictures and know they’re not alone during this difficult time. My only request, in order to make it cost efficient for the charity, please ensure your donation is $10 or more which includes original artwork, postage, delivery and labor. I do believe these postcards are better and more personalized than a casserole or flowers.

Hip hip hooray! We’re celebrating our 1,000th entry today on dachshund funday Sunday. For almost three years now, we have strived to entertain and educate our dachshund community via our shared personal experiences. We attempt to motivate and inspire our fellow dachshund people to get out and about with their low-riding hounds and try new things together. We love the breed and the humans that call these canines family.

Today’s featured photos are of Rufus, Emily and Lily getting a bath after today’s dust bowl meetup in LA. The meetup was fun with about 45 dachshunds and their humans, but the Santa Ana winds were strong this afternoon. We all returned home covered in dust and dirt, but it was a small price to pay for a brilliant afternoon with friends. Proof is in the picture.

Today is our 999th post, and it features two of our favorites: Rufus and Emily. This morning we all went for our regular Saturday hike and it was a perfect day for it with the cool temps. Emily and Rufus wore their hug-a-dog harnesses and coordinating K9 Kool Kowboy hats. They conquered the mountain today in style. What do think dachshund friends, aren’t they adorable!?
