More Sophie

Sophie has known us since she was a puppy, and she gets excited when we see each other – especially after extended periods of time apart. So for the record we are familiar old friends. Be that as it may, when Sophie’s human leaves her with us, Sophie is very vocal about her disapproval; she really dislikes being left behind. Sophie will whine, bark and howl. Luckily as a fellow dachshund human, I find it endearing and sweet. She usually stops after a while. I recorded the video for her human; so she could see what Sophie is like when she’s not around. It’s funny how our dogs exhibit different personality traits in our absence. I’ve heard from friends that Rufus can be really needy and clingy when I’m not around. Luckily we’re not apart very often (by design). Enjoy dachshund friends and have wonderful day.

Friend Friday featuring Sohpie

This weekend we’re getting some quality time with our darling dachshund friend Sophie. She’s a stunningly gorgeous longhair dachshund and one of our favorite longhair doxie models.

Coincidentally my birthday is approaching, and Sophie’s human surprised me with an Erstwilder pin today (see pic below). They’re such groovy pins but mostly only available in Australia and New Zealand, and I live in Southern California. So, the gift was a really on point for this fashion forward dachshund dude.

I was over the moon about the gift, and I’m loving these new shots I got of Sophie tonight. What do you think friends!?!?? Isn’t Sophie dreamy and the pin spectacular?!

Three amigos

Some folks spend their weekends out and about around town seeing sights, but since I live in a heavy tourist city and set my own schedule, I specifically try to avoid going out most Saturdays and Sundays. I find the weekends to be the perfect occasion for me to edit photos. For those unfamiliar, taking the picture is only the first step. I then have to review the lot, make my selection from the hundreds of pictures I snapped and then edit them to my personal aesthetic and liking. To say the least, it’s a process that under the best of circumstances can be time consuming. I have fun with it though; I often put on some cool tunes and really lose myself for hours while scrutinizing each photo. Today’s featured images are the fruits of my latest editing session. My three amigos: Rufus, Emily and Lily. Let me know what you think. And, have a great weekend – whatever you and your hounds do.

Friend Friday with Davy Jones and Bentley

Celebrating Friend Friday with Davy Jones and his pack mate Bentley. These two are inseparable and adorable as a team. They’re with their human a lot so they had a little separation anxiety Thursday while they were here with us. But I took that nervous energy and used it; I encouraged them to howl and get it all out. We had a howl-along and I was leading it. No telling what our neighbors thoughts. It made for some fun pictures and afterwards, I really think everyone felt better and more relaxed. Proof is in the pictures.

Happy Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day friends! Memorial Day is often confused with Veteran’s Day. Veteran’s Day is all about thanking all who honorably served our country, and Memorial Day is about remembering those who died in battle. A friend said it best, today is the day to remember those who didn’t return.

In the US, the occasion is also synonymous with the beginning of summer (although it technically doesn’t start until late June) and the acceptance of wearing white. Many celebrate the long weekend with family and friends barbecuing or chilling poolside.

However you choose to celebrate today please be certain to stay present to the real meaning of the holiday and be safe friends.

Introducing Ziggy

It’s Friend Friday and today we’re showcasing Ziggy, the longhair piebald puppy. He is absolutely adorable. I love dachshunds of all ages, but the puppy years are so sugary sweet they can cause cavity in large doses. Ziggy was so carefree and fun at his first meetup this last Sunday. We were thrilled he and his decided to join us. Have a good day friends.

There are a lot of things I love about our monthly meetups. At our last meet it was truly a family affair. Many folks were in attendance with extended family – mother and son; mother-in-law and daughter-in-law; husbands and wives; mom, daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren, etc. I think it is really sweet to see the different generations of dachshund lovers come together for an afternoon dedicated to our low-riding hounds. It really warms the heart.

Additionally, at this meetup we had two non-dachshunds among the group, and I think it was great for our wiener dogs’ overall continued development and socialization. Yes, our hot dogs like hanging around other sausage links, but it’s good for them to experience other breeds as the occasion arises. I love the meets and recommend you attend one in your area. If there isn’t one, then be bold and create one. If you plan it, they will come. Proof is in the pictures. Have a wonderful day friends.

Rufus

Rufus has been under the weather this week. It started on Monday and just got progressively worse. We thought he didn’t have an appetite, but as the days pressed on, we realized it wasn’t that he wasn’t hungry, but he was having trouble eating, chewing or swallowing – which we couldn’t be certain. But we were sure the act of eating was now strained. So we visited our vet today. Rufus was sedated so she could get a good up and close look inside. We also took some radiographs. Rufus’ frenulum (and medulla) area – under the tongue, appeared swollen and bruised. The film interpretation report on the xrays came back from the experts as normal; no immediate signs of cancer or other abnormalities. So we’re on some antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and some Sucralfate (to help promote healing in the esophagus etc). At this time Rufus in our care under close observation. We believe (and hope) this incident is simply a traumatic episode; perhaps he attempted to eat a stick or something and it caused the swelling and bruising. Only time will tell, but we remain optimistic. Dachshunds certainly keep life interesting. It’s never a dull moment with a dachshund around.

The featured photos are from last Sunday and clearly show Rufus enjoys being loved. Our nephew Samuel was visiting from Texas and he was very good with Rufus while he was sickly. It was nice to have an extra pair of hands and eyes. Have a wonderful day dachshund friends.
