And he is no Monkee. Yesterday we explored a new patch of beach – Surfers’ Point, and made a new dachshund friend: Davy Jones, the smooth black and tan dapple. The cute and sometime cantankerous rescue got along great with my two – which somewhat surprised Davy’s human. I continue to assert that many dachshunds like (or at least tolerate) their own breed more than any other. I’m not here to explain why, but simply to testify to what I have witnessed time and time again. The beach excursion was a nice preamble to today’s 4th of July celebrations.
Remember friends today is the #1 day in the US when dogs are lost, because of the loud and scary fireworks. If you can’t be with your doxies this 4th of July, be certain to properly confine them indoors. Consider putting them in a room and/or crate with four solid walls to keep the explosive noise down to a muffle. Other options include a natural calming agent you pick up at your favorite pet supply store or a Thundershirt. Adding some soothing music or the sounds of TV might also help to drown out the potential sounds of bombs bursting in air. Happy 4th. Please make it safe one for you and your beloved dachshunds.
look at his unusual dapple pattern!!! AWESOME!!!
I see that Davy has his flaps in the upright position and is waiting for the tower to give him clearance to take off. I agree with the Doxies love Doxies observation. When Gretchen was a puppy we would watch the dog shows together and I noticed that she seemed to wag her tail more when she saw certain dogs. On saturdays we watch “Too Cute” on Animal Planet and she gets up close and personal when it is the kittens they are showing. Last week she watched intently as they aired two segments of kittens back to back. She did not budge and had her eyes on the screen at all times. Davey has quite the personality! Once they spot other Doxies life is good.
