It’s beginning to look like Christmas

The decorations have come out and the Christmas trees have gone up, and instead of elves helping us we have a pack of dedicated dachshunds. This is Lily’s first yuletide season so she’s a little shy about all the new things in her space. Emily remains indifferent to it all, and Rufus is ready to report to duty and lend his opinion on everything. Happy December doxie friends! Christmas is only 24 days away, are you and your doxies ready for it?!

I love it when I’m photographing dachshunds, and they come right up to the camera with their inquisitive noses to check it out. For me they provide some very entertaining photos. I love seeing those hound dog noses at work. All of these dachshunds are featured in the book – 102 Dachshunds. Make it a great one friends.

Our friends at Dachshund Delights donated a hug-a-dog harness to Lucy. We have been hiking with Lucy for about month now, since her humans are older and less mobile. We had be loaning her one of our harnesses but it was a little small, and now Lucy has her very own harness that fits perfectly. Thank you Dachshund Delights for your kindness and support. We remain fans and friends.

Emily Sue turns 2

Today our darling doxie Emily Sue is 2. It has been a real treat to watch her blossom from a shy, fat roly-poly of a puppy to a beautiful and more confident full-grown dachshund. I continue to assert that if you devote the first two years of dachshund’s life to training and being there – and I cannot underscore the necessity and importance of simply being there, you will end up with a dachshund perfectly tailored for you and your family. I believe this is true for puppies and also applies to older rescues. Being there to train your dachshund is not something that happens overnight or even after a few months. I believe it takes a good full two years. Emily today is a perfect dachshund for us. She can go off-leash during our hikes; she travels well in the car, in her carrier and is simply perfect for us in every way.

In lieu of gifts, please consider making a tax-deductible donation in her name to her preferred charity: Dachshund Outreach Giving and Socialization (DOGS). Celebrating 700

Today is our 700th post and we want to thank all of our fans and friends for tuning in daily and supporting us with your likes and comments. Thank you!

We were going to give the coveted spot of 700 to our newest pack mate: Lily, but she turned camera shy all of sudden. It is truly amusing to measure how Emily has grown over the last two years (her second birthday is tomorrow) and compare it to where Lily is today. Emily was once a camera-shy dachshund and today she’s an exceptional model. I look forward to witnessing a similar evolution in Lily. One just needs to apply patience and practice.

Here is a look back at some of our other notable milestones: 100, 200, 300, 500 and 600. It’s fun to see how my dachshunds and I, as a photographer, have grown over the years. Thanks to all for joining us on this dachshund photographic expedition. I’m not entirely sure when or where we’ll end, but for now we’re enjoying the journey and loving your company. Make it a wonderful day doxie friends.

Dog beds

Everyone is always asking about my dachshunds’ dog beds. We have 7 beds and a crate, but my dachshunds love their snuggle sacks or trundle beds. They super soft faux fur beds that can be used bunched up as a nest, laid out like a tunnel or stretched flat like a mat. We even takes these beds in the car for long road trips. These beds are great for our burrowing dachshunds. The grey faux fur bed is by Tiger Dreamz and the other two buggle snuggle beds are by Jackrocketwear. I love the Jackrocketwear beds, because although they’re a little more expensive than the typical bed, they’re also nicer. They’re bigger so they’re perfect for two dachshunds to share and they’re reversible with two different looks and patterns. A good dog bed goes a long way because it’s in our home and in our car so I recommend investing in something that you both will like. These beds are machine washable and hang dry.
