Enjoying January

Dachshund friends Southern California is the place to be in January, in my opinion. June is usually gloomy, but January is often green (which is nice for our desert climate) filled with many goldilock days – not too hot or too cold, but just right. We sincerely feel for all of our friends currently battling the cold, but remember warmer days will return. Until then, please enjoy this video and photo. They were taken on Tuesday while storm Juno blanketed the Northeast and Midwest in snow. Wishing you were here friends.

Playing fetch

A few weekends ago we met this darling smooth black and tan dachshund at the dog park. Regrettably I can’t recall his name, but I do remember this guy was an IVDD survivor and 10 years or older. I mention that because it’s obvious from the pictures that this little man is truly like the little engine that could. The visible scar from the back surgery was the only indication that hound was once down. This is what I love about the breed; they take a lick and keep ticking. This darling doxie, despite his past, was full of life and living for the game of fetch. I think our dachshunds can teach us a lot about seizing each day for what it is; a blessing. Marley the longhair dachshund

It’s Marley the black and tan longhair dachshund. Marley is a very handsome hound, and the second black and tan longhair dachshund we’ve come to know. Marley can be a little barky around other dogs, but our meetups have provided him and his human a very safe and supportive environment for Marley to get better socialized. What do you think dachshund friends?! Is Marley the cat’s meow?!

Ojai Doxies Meetup

Today was our re-scheduled Ojai Doxies Meetup and it was a wonderfully fun day for it. We had 10 dachshunds and their humans turn out for our small city. We also had lots of other small breed dogs come by and say hi.

There are several things I love about these meetups, but let me just quickly share my top two. First, I love it when people bring their not very well-socialized dachshunds and approach with caution and trepidation, but leave smiling because we collectively provided a safe, welcoming and supporting environment for both dachshunds and humans. I also love that our meetups often yield a very diverse group of humans which for me is very reflective of our diverse breed. I love it when these meetups bring folks from all walks of life together for a few hours. Proof is in the pictures.

For me it’s always a good time when hanging with our sausage hounds. Enjoy the photos friends.

Happy Birthday Frank

We wanted to wish our dear friend Frank, the longhair standard dachshund, a very happy, happy birthday! This gentle giant is gorgeous and with all those lush locks he reminds me of Cousin Itt from the Addams Family. Frank we hope your day is filled with lots of treats, walks and belly rubs you handsome stud. Frank is a magnificent seven today.

Today the pups were extremely good while I ran errand all over town so I rewarded their good behavior with a sunset beach frolic, which was a very pleasant end to my long day of running. Enjoy the photos dachshund friends and don’t forget to reward your dachshund for all their good behavior.

Many of our dachshund friends continue to request merchandise and prints of our Dachshund Fine Art Photography so… it is with great pleasure to announce we are now offering some select images for purchase. I have personally handpicked a few of my favorites and will update the gallery from time to time. We also happily accept any request you might have. For example, if you want to see more of Emily or Lily in the shop or perhaps you want to see more of a specific type of dachshund – smooth, longhair, wirehair, puppies or seniors; let us know and we’ll do our best to accommodate.

I think I’m most excited about the throw pillows and smartphone cases. I think they’re fun and showcase the original art nicely. But of course, the shop also includes prints, framed prints, cards and posters. Check them out! Pixels.com works well for us because they handle the fulfilment and delivery which is nice, but of course, if you want something you can always contact us directly. Eager for sunshine to return

After a week of fun; hiking and frolicing on the beach, rain came this weekend and ruined all of our weekend plans. But we’re taking it in stride and remembering happier times – like this past Thursday’s beach excursion as evident by today’s featured photos. This past December (2014) I was asked to be part of a local gallery exhibit and here are the four pieces I submitted. It was my interpretation of dachshund iconography, and I really enjoyed playing with repetition, pattern and rhythm. What do you think dachshund friends?!

After hosting our two wirehair friends for 15 fun days, it was time to say goodbye this last Saturday. However, I was certain to get a few good pictures while the old gang was reunited.
