Officially introducing Lily Blossom and her new permanent pack. When I did a Google search for “Lily Blossom” – just out of curiosity, I discovered it is the name of a My Little Pony character. As a kid I remember my sister playing with these toys – who happens to be named Blossom Rose, which was our source of inspiration for the name. Moreover, blossom is defined as 1) a flower 2) the condition or time of flowering 3) a period or condition of maximum development or as a verb 1) to come into flower; bloom or 2) to develop; flourish. I feel like all of the above describe Lily and her journey from a rescued / shelter at-risk puppy to permanently joining our pack (and that entailed over these last 5 weeks) to all that is still to come as she blossoms into a mature well-socialized balanced dachshund.
Lily and Emily sound very similar but since they’re my two girls now, I thought that was appropriate. Thanks to all for the warm wishes and congratulatory comments and emails. The decision had some trepidation for me because it wasn’t planned, but sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith and go with what life gives you. After announcing it yesterday, I started to get really excited – especially as the flood of your supportive comments came in. We really are happy to have Lily as part of our family, and I think she makes a fine addition to our pack.
Like John Lennon sang in “Beautiful Boy:” Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans. We had plans on how our doxie pack would evolve over time, but sometimes life has a different design. After being with us for 36 days we have made the decision to keep our foster Lily. Yep, I would never have predicted we would be members of the foster failure club, but we are. It naturally wasn’t a rushed or hurried decision, and it was honestly a decision that was made for us by the pack. Both Rufus and Emily enjoy Lily equally, and she assimilated into our household and routine seamlessly. After all this time, I imagine she thinks she’s home and we can’t bring ourselves to tell her different. Lily is home. And then there was three.
*** Correction: in the opening credits of the video below it reads “staring” when it should be “starring.” However, it takes too much effort to re-render the video – at this time, so hopefully my typo won’t lessen your enjoyment of it. Thank you! ***
Continuing the celebration of all things Rufus we searched our archives for a few favorites. These are of Rufus and one is best buds (and first friends) Benny. Notice Rufus doesn’t have much grey yet here. The photos are from 2006 and 2008. Dachshunds do love to look for those patches of sun – wherever they can find it. Proof is in the pictures. Happy Throwback Thursday friends.
Today my baby boy Rufus officially turns 9, and I’m one very proud papa. If you want to show Rufus some love today on his special day, please feel free to make a tax-deductible donation to the charity he inspired – Dachshund Outreach Giving and Socialization (DOGS). Donation of $15 or more made via Paypal will received a personalized photo card in the mail featuring an ROTW original image. Perfect to display on the refrigerator or office bulletin board. Additionally today is the LAST DAY to take advantage of the $119 discounted donation price point for Rufus’ book – 102 Dachshunds. Many thanks in advance for the continued love and support. Rufus and I appreciate and adore you all!!!
Rufus prepares to turn a year older with grace. He wears his white face and paws as badges of honor and accomplishment; it signifies his several years of wisdom and experience. He has seen and done much. Rufus has lived a very full life, and we look forward to many more happy returns. Rufus plans to be young 9. We celebrate Rufus and his life with our limited-time promotion on the book – 102 Dachshunds. Please take advantage of the discount now because it expires tomorrow night at midnight.
Rufus says to keep looking up, stay alert to your surroundings because you never know what might pop up to provide a chance to chase, and always be on the look out for a yummy treat. We continue our celebration of Rufus as his birthday approaches. Make it a great one friends.
The Rufus celebration continues, as his 9th birthday is only 3 days away. Looking back it has been an amazing ride together. I know with human children parents are generally careful about expressing their favorite when they have more than one, and I love Emily Sue very much – but Rufus is my favorite. Our bond is strong and special. Emily is a real close second and I think over time she’ll be equal to Rufus, but right now my boy stands in a class all his own for me. To honor Rufus and the charity he inspired take advantage of the limited-time promo on his book – 102 Dachshunds (get your autographed copy today if you haven’t already) or simply make any tax-deductible donation you choose by clicking here. All donations $15 and more will receive a personalize photo card as our sincere thanks featuring an original ROTW image. I love this doxie!
Today we have reached another milestone in our journey together. Today is our 600th published post using exclusively original content created by me – which is no small feat since some days I’m baffled by what to post. Wow. It seems like it was only yesterday that we debuted the website and now a little over a year and a half later, we’ve reached 600. All the praise and thanks go to our fans and friends. If it weren’t for you tuning in daily for your dose of dachshund our posts would be pretty pointless. But you do tune in and you let us know it regularly with your emails, comments and likes on Facebook. Thank you!
We are here to entertain and educate our fellow dachshund loving friends without beating them over the head with sermons so… we’re honored and humbled each time you visit us. The occasion is nearly timed perfectly with Rufus’ 9th birthday – which is only 5 days away; Aug. 21, 2013. As our sincere thanks to you we’re offering a limited-time promotion of the book Rufus inspired – 102 Dachshunds. For the next six days (through midnight on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013; Rufus’ 9th birthday) the book can be yours for a tax-deductible donation of $119, which covers UPS 2-day shipping (a $20+ value) and Paypal fees. Remember this is a collector’s item with only 250 produced worldwide and is only available solely via ROTW. You can’t get it at Amazon or eBay. All proceeds go towards the 501c3 volunteer run and operated charity Dachshund Outreach Giving and Socialization (DOGS).
For all those folks who think that we will some day have a fire sale on these books, I’m sorry to disappoint; we’ll discount the suggested donation from time to time as a means of celebration and thanks, but… to reduce it significantly to fire sale prices would diminish its value for everyone who has already gotten their copy and for all of those who hope to still get theirs. In fact it’s our vision that over time we’ll have another opportunity to do a second run and/or a supplement edition in the future so… take advantage of the limited time discount and get your first-run copy today while supplies still last. Get your autographed copy by making your $119 donation here; which I believe is the lowest price point we have ever offered to the general public. The book makes for a great gift to give or to get, and it’s an excellent way to honor Rufus, the genesis of it all for me and all of our loyal fans. If it wasn’t for Rufus, my life would look a lot different today, and I suspect it would be a little less colorful and cheerful for all of us.
Thank you friends for the continued support. Enjoy the photos and video.
It’s Thursday again which means it’s time to walk down memory lane once more. Today we re-visit Emily Sue as a puppy. With all the recent attention given to the precious puppy Lily, it’s only fair to give Emily a little. These pictures are from our first week with Emily (back in January 2012), and I must admit that I think they’re just priceless. Share your throwback Thursday photos with us on our DOGS Facebook page. Love to see yours.
