Good luck Jake

We got a personal request from Jake’s human this weekend. Today Jake is undergoing a deep teeth cleaning. He apparently got an infection in his mouth and a with a decreed heart murmur had to visit a cardiologist before proceeding. Luckily he has been given the green light to move forward with the anesthesia deep teeth clean, but of course, his mum is a nervous nelly today. Jake is his human’s lil man so as a collective community we want to wish Jake, his pack mate Sadie and human best of luck today. You’re not alone, we’re all sending lots of positive healing thoughts your way and we’re hoping for some good news later today. All best little man Jake. We love you!

I love to photograph the dachshund form in the studio with my lights and backdrops, but I also enjoy a natural lifestyle shoot. You’ve seen the piebalds Theodore and Lucy in the studio, and today it’s all about them in a natural setting: a doxie human’s backyard. Enjoy the lovely doxie spots friends.

Theodore & Lucy

Theodore, the black and tan piebald, lives in Colorado full time and visits California regularly with his human. His human comes back to California routinely to visit her parents who recently rescued Lucy, the piebald brindle, from the Human Society of Ventura County. I got to meet both dachshunds Wednesday and Thursday and just couldn’t wait to photograph them. Both doxies are well socialized and got along smashingly with my pack. I believe this is my first official play date and pictures where I actually captured some studio style portraits, and it felt great to be back behind the lights and camera. I’d normally take a few days to properly edit before sharing, but I was so excited I rushed to do a quick set. Please expect to see more of these darling doxies in the days ahead. It’s probably going to be a piebald weekend. Enjoy friends.

RIP Max

Yesterday while celebrating chocolate mania I was informed another dachshund I knew and photographed passed. Max, the chocolate smooth dachshund, passed this March. The news came as a shock because Max was relatively young. Max’s family and surviving pack mate Laci, a smooth chocolate dapple, are in our thoughts.

If any fan, friend or fellow-doxie human wants to make a tax-deductible donation in Max’s name a personalize condolence postagram will be mailed to his family. I especially like these postagrams because the photo pops out of the postcard, which makes for a great keepsake. When our doxies pass, all we have are our memories and pictures. With your help Max’s family can have a few more pictures. My only request, in order to make it cost efficient for the charity, please ensure your donation is $10 or more.

I remember Max being very fond of belly rubs and barking at the noise coming from Hollywood Boulevard during our photo shoot. He was a sweet chocolate with big bright eyes. He and his family are in our thoughts today.

I’m currently reviewing my personal catalog of dachshunds for the next inspiration for our forthcoming 2nd DOGS T-shirt, due out in November (paws crossed). Here are a few of the candidates under consideration. The 2nd DOGS T-shirt will feature a longhair dachshund, and we may end up doing a small reprint (though different color scheme) of the first shirt. All the details will be shared as final decisions are reached, but in the meantime enjoy our lovely longhairs friends: Paige, Preston, Frank, Sydney and Colin.

Our friend and neighbor Wilbur, the wirehair dachshund, hasn’t been feeling a 100% as of late. So we wanted to extend our sincere wishes for him to get well soon. It’s never fun for us when our dachshunds aren’t well, especially since it can be a real challenge sometimes to diagnose the problem. Get well Wilbur so we can play.
