Millie
Millie is one of Dachshund Paws and Pals’ rescues and is meeting a perspective forever family today (Monday). We’re keeping our paws and tails crossed in hopes it’s another love match for the rescue. Millie came the organization as a medical muddle, but I’ve enjoyed following her story and progress, because no matter how bad it got Millie always had that adorable jovial smirk and bright eyes. I’m thrilled to have finally met her yesterday during a DOGS event, and must admit she’s even cuter in person. I love her messy mop of a do, which only adds to her undeniable charm. She reminds me of a Muppet. Wishing Millie all the best for a happily ever after.
Lily
Have a wonderful day friends.

Emily time
I believe in doing things together as a pack and also giving each of my dachshunds some individualized special time. Yesterday Emily and I went with a friend to a near by lake to explore, and I was really impressed by Emily’s continued confidence. She’ll be two years old soon, and she has certainly become a more confident doxie in the last year. Initially when we would go on mini adventures without Rufus, Emily would be shy and not venture too far from under foot. Yesterday at the lake she was bold, curious and self-assured as she traveled the grounds. She makes me proud because I have watched her evolve, and I attribute it to all the countless hours of work and love we put towards her development and socialization these last two years. Remember if you have a doxie pair or pack, be certain to do things together but also give each doxie her own day. It’s fun and important to building that well-socialized and balance doxie personality.
Distinctively dachshund
This may or may not be true for other dog breeds, but it’s truly a distinctively dachshund trait: the ears flipped back. It’s rather common to see one ear flipped, but I find it particularly charming when both ears flip back. This seems to happen more with Rufus than Emily or Lily, and it is just one more reason why I love my low-riding hounds. Do you ever see the double ear flip in your doxie(s)?!
WiggleLess back brace
This week’s product spotlight goes to the WiggleLess back brace. July was IVDD Awareness Month and chronic back problems are a genuine concern for many dachshund humans. Addressing our doxies’ back problems often requires a complex comprehensive plan of action, and the WiggleLess back brace is one more option available to us. Rufus sprang his back twice in 9 years and had to endure a cortisone shot, some pain meds and two weeks of crate rest. Luckily his back is perfect today, but it would have been useful back then to have had the WiggleLess back brace. The brace helps us to find balance between a life of confinement and the natural course of play many doxies enjoy daily. Of course, consult your vet when considering if the WiggleLess back brace is appropriate for you and yours. You’re also welcome to visit their delightfully informative website: http://www.wiggleless.com/. May your dogs never need it, but if they do someday, it’s great peace of mind to know it’s available at a click of button.

Wiener Dog Wednesday
It’s Wiener Dog Wednesday and today’s featured dachshund is the incomparable Emily Sue. Wishing everyone a very doxie-tastic day.
Happy 6th Birthday Sophie
This weekend our friend Sophie, the smooth brindle doxie, turned six and we wanted to wish her a very happy belated birthday. I remember our photo shoot fondly, and to be perfectly frank the camera LOVES Sophie. Really I don’t think she could take a bad picture if she tried. She was also a prefect model and got along very well with Rufus; they were like instant friends and worked very well together. Hope it was a great day for you Sophie. So happy you were born, and we’re happy to know you. Sophie and her pack mate Brutus are featured in the book 102 Dachshunds, a great gift to give or get this holiday season.

Socialization soapbox
This weekend we attended a mini meetup with some local doxie friends and their humans. It was fun to see Davy Jones and Lucy again (along with others). It’s supremely important to expose our dachshunds to other people, places, things and situations. However, if your discriminating dachshund is fussy about the company he keeps, start with other fellow dachshunds. Doxies always seem to enjoy (or at least tolerate) other dachshunds better than non-dachshund breeds. We naturally want our dachshunds to get along with all kinds of dogs (and people), but sometimes we have to start slow and build their confidence with consistent exposure over time. The experience is also rewarding for the doxie humans, because it’s sweet to see our low-riding hounds hanging with their fellow brethren. Love and highly recommend doxie meetups.
Getting some extra sleep
The girls: Emily and Lily are enjoying the extra hour of sleep with the end of the Daylight Saving Time. May you be rested and ready for another doxie-tastic day.
