Continuing the celebration of Lily, we visited our favorite local dog park this morning and had a blast with some fellow dachshund friends. Pictures of said friends will follow in the days ahead, but in the meantime enjoy this cute video from yesterday post-beach frolic. I think Lily is living a very happy life, and I’m happy we’re able to provide it. Have a wonderful day dachshund friends.

Happy, happy birthday to our little lovely Lily Blossom. We spent the morning at one of our favorite dog beaches in Southern California, and now we’re just taking it easy. Everyone, including me, are all tired out from running in the sand, surf and sun.

Tomorrow is Lily Blossom’s makeshift birthday. Lily is a rescue that came to us an estimated 6-8 weeks old. However, the FIRST day we met little Lily was on Friday, July 19, 2013 (last year) so… forever more, we declare her birthday to be July 19. Tomorrow, for us, Lily turns one, and we’re celebrating all weekend long with close friends. We’re going to our favorite beach on Saturday and our favorite local dog park on Sunday. We didn’t originally intend to keep Lily, but like many foster parents before us, we happily joined the foster failure club. You know how humans can accidentally get pregnant sometimes?!? I think some folks call it a happy accident (for an unplanned pregnancy). Well, Lily is our happy accident. We weren’t planning for a third dachshund, but she assimilated so well in to our pack, lives and hearts that we just couldn’t let her go. AND each day she’s with us, I’m so grateful to have her. We’re smitten by her.
Today’s featured photos are of Lily at the beach. The top photo I call the Lily Shake. Looking at the composite of pictures I hear the fame Harlem Shake song in my head. The bottom photo is Lily finding something at the beach and rolling in it – such a distinctively dachshund trait. Lily continues to blossom each day. The once shy and reserved dachshund is more and more confident every day. Have a wonderful day dachshund friends.

We certainly enjoy our weekly beach frolics. In our part of the world it is super common to see folks walking on the beach with their pooches AND to see them riding horseback. The beach is off-leash, but for the safety of my darling dachshunds, I always put them on leash when I see the horses trotting. Have a wonderful day dachshund friends.

Today we visited the small dog section of our local dog park. We had some time to kill before our veterinary appointment. While there we met this cute wirehair dachshund mix named Phoebe. A real fun moment for us was when Phoebe’s human asked, “Have you heard of RufusontheWeb!?” Here are few photos from that chance meeting. Have a wonderful day dachshund friends.

First, we’re back after a few days of some much needed R&R. It was so sweet to get some comments, private messages and emails checking in on us. All is well. We strive hard here to provide you with your daily dose of dachshund, but every now and then we take a few days to recharge, refuel and rejuvenate the creative spirit. It was nice to be missed, and we’re happy to be back at it.

They were showcased in our recent gallery exhibit of Dachshund Fine Art Photography, and at the request of their humans, we’re providing a few more from our archives for your enjoyment. One of the primary purposes behind the charity DOGS, and this photoblog, is to encourage and inspire our dachshund friends to do things WITH our lovable low-riders. We’re huge advocates of including our dachshunds in our weekend plans, and creating a variety of mini adventures WITH our happy hounds around town. Me and mine are a little extreme with our weekly excursions, but even if you can’t do it like we do, forge your own mini outings. Whether it’s to a local cafe or mall, a dog park, a nearby hike, a visit to a dog-friendly beach or a weekend camping trip, take your dachshund along. Don’t leave them alone at home ALL the time. Get them out and about. Some say theirs are not well socialized, and I of course have that knee-jerk reply, “Well, that’s never going to change by keeping them at home.” Listen, do your best and don’t be afraid to do a little more over time.
Monday we were at the beach and Tuesday we visited Lake Casitas. Rufus was fearless on the pontoon boat, while my girls need some added exposure before they’re as confident as Rufus. Rufus loves the lake and boats. Proof is in the pictures. Make it a great one dachshund friends.
