I’m extremely grateful that on average I spend 23 hours a day with my two dachshunds. But when I have to leave them behind, this is what I see: them looking out at me from the front window with those sweet little faces. It melts the heart. On the flip side, each time I return home I see the same thing. My little wiggle butts going crazy in the window and I think to myself, what a sweet homecoming and smile big.

Our good friend Roscoe, the red smooth miniature dachshund, showed off his with us on our Facebook page earlier this month and inspired me to buy a single pair for my duo. I can’t tell who wears it better, Emily or Rufus. What do you think?

Today ends our 7-day tribute to the book 102 Dachshunds. I’ve saved the best for last. Page 98 features the adorable Milo (as a puppy) and page 99 is all Emily Sue. Last year around this same time (at the end of the third week in January 2012); we went to meet Emily and her sisters. And the rest, as they say, is history. Our actual adoption anniversary for Emily is January 22 (which last year was a Sunday).

Today we’re showcasing Jewels and Baxter; page 62 and 63 respectively. Jewels is blind in one eye, but remains a stunningly gorgeous example of a longhair dachshund with her painted nails. Baxter is probably one of the oldest doxies I photographed, and I think he brings lots of character and personality to the photo. What do you think of this motley pair!?

I really like this spread – pages 84 through 85. Each page tell a singular story all on its own, and each two-page spread tells another story when you look at them together. On page 84 the female wirehair doxie named Trouble offers her best look of indifference while on page 85 the playful puppy Peanut is eager to engage. Looking at them side by side, I want to laugh. It’s as though Peanut wants to play with Trouble, and Trouble is saying, “go away pup, you bother me.”
The book is intended to invoke a variety of moods and emotions. It is my objective to have people oohing and awing, smiling and laughing and perhaps even a few moments melancholy. It’s a day dedicated the longhairs fans. Odie graces page 60 while Paige happily occupies page 61. Both dachshunds are absolutely gorgeous in my opinion. I love my easy maintenance smooth coat doxies, but the longhairs do photograph nicely. What do you think?

A pack affair. I love photographing dachshunds, and I especially love photographing dachshund packs. Page 76 honors best buds Fred and Max while page 77 is all about their pack mate Frank, the longhair standard champion. The three belong to one lucky human. We skipped ahead in the book a little because coincidentally today is Frank’s birthday. I believe the gentle giant with a deep baritone bark is now 5 years old. Happy Birthday Frank, you don’t look a day over three.
