Dachshund day at the beach

It’s pretty much a routine here that we visit the beach weekly. When it gets too hot to hike, we hit the beach to get our exercise and my dachshunds love it. They love the many smells and interesting things that get washed up on the shoreline. For those who don’t know, it’s not recommended that small dogs play fetch at the beach because the act of doing so puts your dachshund at risk of ingesting large quantities of sand. Some dogs will simply pass the sand without incident, but it can cause problems in others. For us the risk is not worth any potential reward. We have never been big proponents for playing fetch much anyway. Instead we prefer to run in the sand and surf which is great exercise for our low-bodied hounds and their little legs. We mention it here today, because during these summer months we see a higher frequency of posts on varied message boards on the hot topic of the season. The beach can be a fun and safe place for our sausage dogs, but we do need to be careful (like we do in all settings). Have a wonderful day dachshund friends.

Today we’re showcasing Lily playing with Rufus while Emily and Sophie watch. I’m currently obsessed with the slow-motion video option. Dachshunds can move so quickly, especially when they’re playing, that I really appreciate the beautiful choreography of watching it slowed down. Enjoy dachshund friends and make it a wonderful day.

Continuing the holiday celebration at home with my favorite dachshund pack – Rufus, Emily and Lily; we’re just goofing around in the backyard. My darling dachshunds are such great sports when playing supermodels. The breed loves to please their humans, and I’m very pleased with them. They make me laugh all the time. Enjoy the photos. Celebrating with dachshunds

For some folks, they enjoy parades, the excitement of crowds and people watching. Meanwhile, we much prefer the peace and comfort of home – especially on the 4th of July when many pets are lost during the explosively loud and scary fireworks. We’re celebrating the holiday today (4ht of July) hanging out at home with some of our favorite beings – our dachshund pack: Rufus, Emily & Lily. Keep them safe and calm tonight dachshund friends. I think one thing that made our dachshund art exhibit different (and perhaps better in my opinion) is that we allowed dachshunds and their humans to both join us. Some galleries can be uptight and obnoxious about allowing dogs in, but not us. Dachshund humans were given permission to bring their long-bodied hounds inside, and it made perfect sense since the show celebrated the lowriders. It was also wonderful that all the dachshunds in attendance were well behaved. The feedback from the general public was very positive and many liked seeing the dachshunds in print and in person. This wirehair beauty visited us and made a very nice impression on all the gallery patrons. She was simply adorable.

We had two months to prepare for our two-day exhibit of DOGS’ Dachshund Fine Art Photography. In retrospect, I think we’d love to have had a good six months, but it’s always fun to rise to the challenge. From our catalog of hundreds of thousands we selected 20 original images and put them in one-of-a-kind refurbished frames (which is aligned with our motto of recycle, reuse and reclaim). We also had 5 art installments that included: two wood and acrylic ink paintings by our friends at Kapla Art, a DIY Robyn Davis alter, a dachshund duo theme of four watches and a blanket featuring my favorite dachshund trio: Rufus, Emily and Lily. Additionally, we had our book – 102 Dachshunds and our DOGS Summer 2014 tees available for sale. The response was overwhelmingly positive, the turnout was beyond our expectations and several pieces were sold with a few pending sales still lingering. However, we have received many requests on Facebook and here to see the exhibit and to give our online community the chance to purchase so… here you go. We have two categories of art: big (top) and small (bottom) works. We will only be showcasing those pieces still available to purchase, and dimensions will be provided upon request. We’ll also be working to offer more detail on the individual art available for purchase on Facebook (so stay tuned). Here are some highlights from the 2-day celebratory event. We’re back

Hello dachshund friends. We’re back! After being away for a few days while we hosted DOGS‘ very first Dachshund Fine Art Photography gallery show in Ojai, California we’re finally back in the offices and in front of the computer. We have so MUCH to share and lots of fun show and tell over the coming days, but for now we’re still trying to catch our breath. We have a long list of thank yous and people we want to acknowledge so… we’ll get started with a few right now.

Big thanks to Bella, Fizzgig and their humans for stopping by this weekend. We absolutely loved seeing ALL the dachshunds who came out to visit us. The 2-day exhibit was dog-friendly and we were thrilled so many humans brought theirs to see the photos that celebrated our lovable low-riders.

Also, quick note: today (at 11:59 pm PST) is the end of our celebratory sale for the book 102 Dachshunds. If you still want one, get it today before the price returns to its regular price on July 1, 2014.

Emily enjoyed herself a little too much this week while at the beach. She was covered in sand before long and had to get a bath as soon as she got home. I think they all brought part of the beach home with them. Nonetheless, she looks adorable riddled with sand all over her. What do you think!?

Our 501c3 charity Dachshund Outreach Giving and Socialization (DOGS) is turning two at the end of the month. To celebrate the milestone, for the first time to the general public, we’re offering the limited edition, collectible book for $102 – which includes 2-day UPS shipping (a $25 value). That’s less than a dollar a dachshund. The celebratory sale will run through the end of the month (Monday, June 30).
