I think my dachshund pack can be intimidating especially to big dogs when all three rush to surround one. Luckily most of the big dogs that frequent the beaches we visit are friendly and well socialized. I love watching them circle around a big dog and taking stock of him; as though they’re measuring him for his worth. They’re a very curious breed. Enjoy dachshund friends.

Bates beach

Rincon Beach Park (or as locals call it, Bates’ Beach since it’s located off the Bate’s exit from the 101) is a new favorite patch of sand for us. Moving from LA County to Ventura County has been an adjustment, but we are loving the many dog-friendly beaches this part of SoCal offers. In LA there are really only two, and they don’t include Santa Monica or Venice. Sadly those beaches are not dog friendly. Today’s photos showcase my dachshund trio enjoy the water and more importantly chasing the sea birds. Rufus is our pack leader (when you don’t count me) until it comes to chasing the birds on the beach, and then Emily usually leads the charge full speed. Enjoy the photos dachshund friends.

Emily darling

Emily entertains me daily; they all do. I really enjoy how bonded my dachshund pack is, but I also truly appreciate how different each one is. Emily is a true character; they all are. Emily is a stunning good-looking dachise and the camera loves her; she’s also very vocal with her barks and super expressive with her eyes. Emily loves to stare straight into your eyes at time like she’s playing that game people play when they try not to blink first. I can only imagine what she must be thinking when she does it. A dachshund’s mind is an amazing and curious thing to me. Enjoy dachshund friends and have delightful day.

Last week at our local dog park we met another red smooth female dachshund named Lily. It was sweet and Lily Blossom (mine) was very curious about the other Lily. Proof is in the pictures. Have a wonderful day dachshund friends.

Bringing it back. I used to write a column for an online publication and my weekly contribution was called Wiener dog Wednesday. Well, I no longer write for said publication but why not continue the tradition here. Today we feature one my favorites: Rufus. This is the scene at the dog park last week. There was a squirrel and Rufus naturally was obsessed. Even when the squirrel went to the big dog section, Rufus’ focus remained steadfast. Rufus is always entertaining. Run Rufus run

One of my favorite things is watching Rufus run. When he runs, he seems so happy and free. I love giving my dachshunds the opportunity to run free in a safe location – like dog friendly beaches and dog parks. Seeing them happy makes me happy. Enjoy the photos friends.

It truly warms my heart to know my dachshunds have bonded. As an observer it’s sweet to witness genuine moments of friendship between the pack. My two girls consistently look to Rufus for guidance, and he’s happy to lead. I’m very grateful by the dynamic of the three and today we showcase Rufus and Emily. Sunset beach fun

Finally, it has cooled to reasonable temperatures in SoCal. However, earlier this week we headed to the beach to dip our paws in the cold and refreshing ocean. The combination of the setting sun and nearly empty beach was fun. We explored a new patch of sand, Rincon Beach, and look forward to many returns. Enjoy the photos dachshund friends.

Hound dogs

Let there be no mistake, our little sausage dogs are hunters. They love to flush out potential prey and give way to chase. For us it’s mostly squirrels, a lizard or two hiding in the lavender bush and the occasional cotton-tail rabbit that dares to enter the backyard. My three love to force the squirrel from the trees on our property to the wooden privacy fence and up and neighbor’s palm tree where it apparently feels safe. It’s a common scene here and they have it down to a well choreographed routine. Earlier this week as the squirrel quickly ran for its life up the palm tree, it caused a few birds to come out. And to my surprise, one was a cute little owl. Proof is in the picture. Living with dachshunds is always entertaining and you never know what each day will hold. Don’t you agree dachshund friends!?
