It’s summertime so naturally we’re taking full advantage of the many different beaches in our surrounding area. This past week we explored Summerland’s Lookout Park and Beach. Emily got to run on the beach while Rufus took the opportunity to cool his paws in the refreshing Pacific Ocean. Good times. Hope you and your hot dogs are keeping cool during these dog days of summer.

Looking at Rufus and Emily my heart bursts with pride. With lots of devotion, love, regular exercise, a balanced diet, ample opportunity for socialization and a healthy dose of discipline my little doxie puppies have blossomed into two very fine dachshunds. The top photo shows Emily’s progression from puppy to adolescent (right to left). She has grown from a shy little pup to my brave and barking backyard lizard hunter. Milo thank you for teaching her how to bark early in her development. She is still perhaps shyer than the average doxie, but that is why we got her. Her submissive attitude was the perfect complement to Rufus’ alpha-dog Napoleon complex. The two make a perfect doxie pair for my family, and I’m elated to reap the fruit of our hard work. I look forward to continuing to work with Emily, but it’s nice to take a moment and appreciate all that we have collectively accomplished together. My pups inspire me daily and I hopes yours do the same for you. Happy Friday friends!

A popular trend on Facebook most weeks is something called Throwback Thursday where friends post pictures from their past. Looking through my catalog of photos it’s always though to decide what to share and when. So to be completely random about it, I’m sharing some never-seen-before photos of the adorable wirehair puppies from last year for one singular purpose: to make you say… “Awe.” Did it work?! It has been about 7 months since we last saw our friend Milo. By all accounts Milo and his human are enjoying their city of brotherly love, and my pack and I couldn’t be happier for them. That doesn’t change the fact that we miss seeing his sweet face and funny disposition daily in California. Milo, like many dachshunds I know, could be stubborn and insistent on doing things his way, which only added to his charm and made me laugh. Milo was a fun photo subject because you never knew what he was going to do once I start shooting. He could really serve up some comical facial expressions. Proof is in the pictures.

For no special reason, I’m declaring it Rufus Tuesday. May it be a great day for you and yours. Remember with temperatures rises, please don’t leave your dachshund in a hot car. Even if you leave the windows crack and even if it’s only for a supposed few minutes, don’t do it! If you can’t take them with you, just leave them at home. Here is why.

It has been a crazy few months: I moved, I got Bell’s Palsy, our charity celebrated turning 1 and I personally got a year older. Unfortunately, as a result of all that has been happening I’m behind in my editing. Luckily yesterday I made some headway. These are from a photo shoot we did in early May. I have shared some select photos here, but I finally finished editing the series and happily got a chance to forward them to their humans – who’ve been eagerly awaiting their arrival. I’m grateful for their understanding and patience. You can see the entire series also by clicking here. The two photos I’m sharing today are among my favorites. The top photo is a favorite because I love the serenity it evokes and the natural lines of the dachshund head, ears and neck. The bottom photo is a little out of focus but I love the smile on Abbey’s face – which is in focus. Dachshunds are truly a fun and unique breed. The more I photograph them, the more I see they’re a very special being in our universe. Happy Monday friends.

Rufus and Emily’s neighbor is Zelda, a beautiful smooth black and tan. She’s also the sister of Wilbur. She’s got her pretty pose down. What do you think?! I believe she looks like she could be Emily’s older sister.

It’s no secret that I love to take my doxies to the beach, and that I love to photograph them at the beach. But I’m especially fond of these two photos. For me there’s a real sweetness to them, like a capture a moment. The top photo of Emily is priceless, and the bottom one of Rufus looking up at me with that fame gaze of his always tugs at my heart. The love between doxies and their humans, I believe, is best expressed in pictures. Have a wonderful day friends.
