Dachshund eyes

Yes, I’m completely and totally bias and I proudly admit that I love the eyes of a dachshund. Maybe it’s true for all dog lovers. Those puppy dog eyes (even as adult dogs) make me melt every time. The older they get, the more soulful they seem.

Effortless beauty

Longhair dachshunds seem to have an effortless beauty about them. What do you think?

Retro Emily

Emily flashback Friday.  Enjoy the puppy days because they grow fast.  Luckily I have the pictures to remind me of that chubby little cherub puppy body and face.

Book rejects

Milo & Rufus | July 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Narrowing the selection from thousands to just a hundred was a tough and difficult process for the forthcoming book 102 Dachshunds. On the bright side, I still get to share many of them with you here over the next several months. Honestly I adore them all, and I could fill a book two or three times over.  Nonetheless, I do believe the final 102 dachshunds I handpicked are a balanced, fun representation of the diverse breed we love. Today’s doxies are among the featured 102, but imagine if these exact photos didn’t make the cut, what did?!  You’ll just have to buy the book and see because I’m not telling.  Remember the $125 tax deductible donation offer is only good through Oct. 31, 2012; and there’s only about 200 books remaining.  When all 250 are sold, that’s it.  The book is truly a limited edition, special collector’s item.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, Lucy will be placed with her forever family on Friday, Oct 19. In the interim my family has taken over the fostering duties. By request from Lucy’s previous foster we’re showcasing some more Lucy.

Lap, feet, looks and Rufus

Rufus | September 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Rufus is either in our laps or at our feet and he is nearly always looking up at me for one reason or another. Rufus has many different gazes; sometimes it’s a wanting look other times it’s a look of love, I imagine. Point, I never grow tired of Rufus’ presence or looks. In fact, I feel happiest when he is near. Life with a dachshund is good.

SADD

Rufus | September 2012. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Rufus suffers from Squirrel Attention Deficit Disorder (SADD).  He obsesses over them and I personally believe they taunt him.  Darn squirrels!

Happy Birthday Bailey

Bailey | May 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

The lovely Bailey turned 11 yesterday and in celebration her humans created AARF – American Association of Retired Furballs on Facebook. The group is open to all senior dogs and the people that love them. Rufus is wishing his friend a very happy birthday and many happy returns.  We don’t think you look a day over 8.

Best four-legged friends

Rufus & Milo | November 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Milo can drive me nuts with his barking some days, but there’s no doubt he is Rufus’ partner in crime. Emily happily forgoes the squirrel chasing for grazing ficus tree berries, but Milo is right there with Rufus the whole time on the off-chance one takes a misstep. Doxies that play hard together naturally enjoy some downtime together. Here is Rufus and Milo taking a respite before their next squirrel hunt.
