Twice now I’ve had the privilege to hike with five dachshunds on one of my favorite trails, and I’m not certain who enjoys it more 1) me, 2) the doxies or 3) the fellow hikers who smile big as we run pass them. Apparently it’s a real sight to see. I took my camera with me this last time, but as you can imagine it’s truly a challenge to responsibly hike with five dachshunds and attempt to snap some photographs. Nonetheless, I was able to snag a few decent shots.
A lot of folks were giving us pats on back for conquering the trail together, but in full disclosure I want to everyone to know I only recommend hiking with multiple dachshunds by those experienced doxie-handlers. I’ve been hiking with my dachshunds for the last 5 years. My doxie pack and I have hiked this specific trail 32 times in the last 54 days. I have an established relationship with Lucy and Theo (the two guest doxies on our hike), and I only visit the trail during non-peak times to avoid crowds of humans or other dogs. It’s an awesome experience to hike with five dachshunds, but I only do it responsibility and recommend you do the same. Your safety and the safety of your dachshunds should always be your first priority, but with some practice and a little patience, there’s not much you can’t do together.

I just love how you take the dogs to the beach and now trails. Doxies need to socialize and hiking is a good way to do that. Must be some good sniffs on that trail. My Gretchen loves outdoor areas like this and sniffs every little thing she can. To add another adventure to your posting I have a funny story to share with you. This morning she was outside with my boyfriend and as he was talking to a neighbor Gretchen snuck over to the neighbors house for a visit. She must have made it all of the way down there because I could hear David call her to get back home. I asked David where she was going and he said tht she had noticed a group of people gathered and decided to join everyone. She is the social butterfly around here and it does my heart good to see people bend down to pet her. I am just itchhing for another Doxie and may have to start the adoption search again. Darned dogs are so collectable.
