Yesterday was our final day hosting Polie and Leo. We had a great six days together and celebrated our last day with a private party for four and a photo shoot. It is always fun to spend quality time with friends – even if those friends walk on four legs. Do you like their hats?! It was Polie and Leo’s mom that told me about the happy hound hats originally.

Smooth doxie pack

Yesterday was a real treat. We got to hang out with some old friends: Frankie, Abbey and Dexie. I photographed Frankie and Abbey in 2011, and the two are part of the book 102 Dachshunds. However, Dexie came later so it was a fun getting to spend some quality time with the darling doxie. I’m in the process editing the photos now so stay tuned, but… I think I found a few potential cover options for my next book or calendar. I love dachshunds, and I have a soft spot for these classic smooth doxies. The four girls in middle are bookend by the boys. What do you think?!

Leo

Rufus and Emily are playing host to a few friends for a couple of days. One of them is Leo, the longhair chocolate dapple, and he is today’s featured dachshund. Leo is my newly acquired shadow. Much like Rufus, Leo follows me everywhere I go. Each time I get up and move he is right there, no matter if I’m going to the bathroom, kitchen or bedroom. He simply refuses to let me leave his sight. Another fun fact about Leo is he loves to nap atop of the couch. Where the other three doxies are content on the cushions, Leo prefers the very top much like a cat. What’s a fun fact about your dachshund?! Does yours like to shadow you? Digging doxie

Dachshunds like to dig and I like to watch them dig. They just seem like a real natural at it. If you look closely at the composite above, you’ll see the dirt flying. Luckily my two doxies aren’t dedicated diggers, but we’re currently hosting a few friends and one of them is – Polie. The sweet, smart and funny smooth chocolate doxie Polie enjoys a good dig. It’s our weekly dose of doxie rescue. Please meet Gideon, the smooth black and tan dapple. Dachshund Rescue of Los Angeles generally champions the sick, old and ugly dachshunds; those that no one else wants or believes will not adopt quickly or easily. So, it was refreshing Tuesday when I met Gideon. He is absolutely gorgeous with his distinct dapple markings, trim waistline and happy-go-lucky personality. I predict this pup won’t be homeless long. Today we celebrate a milestone. I have posted an original photograph every day for the last 500 consecutive days. This is my 500th post. Rufus in Ojai

We have been spending more and more time in Ojai (CA) and really enjoying it. I think Rufus and Emily are loving the country like scenery a lot. There are tons of new and unusual smells and critters like cottontail rabbits, gophers, horses and new neighborhood dogs to keep them entertained. I’m having fun watching them experience a new world together. It’s neat to see the world through their eyes. Rufus is such a brave dachshund always prepared for a new adventure.
