We met this adorable 5-month old, piebald, longhair dachshund puppy this weekend at our local dog park. His name is Dexter and he was visiting from Los Angeles. The camera loves this handsome hound, don’t you agree?! I don’t think he could take a bad picture. Enjoy friends.

The rain has returned to Southern California, and as many of us know dachshunds don’t like the rain. Luckily for our pack, the bulk of the downpour occurred during the late night hours when we were all warmly tucked into bed. However, my pack was cautious about going outside this morning. They could tell it was wet. Thankfully the sun has come out for a few hours to give all a chance to pee and poop. Sound familiar friends?!

Sunday was LA Doxies’ 8th annual holiday celebration. We had 53 dachshunds / dogs and their humans. It was a nice, fun and festive day with friends. Here are few of my favorites from the party.
The top photo features Rufus, Emily and Lily in their matching faux leather bomber jackets with hoods. They were the Yuletide Doxie Gang bringing holiday cheer everywhere they went Sunday.

This has been a challenging week. On Tuesday we got word that our friend Lenny passed and then on Friday I received notice that our friend Bailey also went to the Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly the night before. My heart truly aches each time we hear that a friends is gone. It hurts and makes me sad for the family and our community, and to have two go this week when it’s supposed to be the most wonderful season of the year, is tough.
For me, with their humans’ permission, I like to say goodbye via our pictorial tributes here. It allows me to go back in time and revisit happier days and remember the joy they brought all of us. I like to celebrate Bailey Marie and the indelible mark she left behind in our hearts.
Bailey was considered the queen of her pack at 13; she was also an IVDD survivor. Her reign has come to an end, but her spirit and memory will live on in all of us who knew and loved her. I especially liked her mismatched eyes and the funny grins she gave the camera. She was a true matriarch, and my family lovingly forward her surviving pack and humans lots of hugs and good thoughts.

If any dachshund friend wants to make a tax-deductible donation in Bailey’s name a personalized condolence postcard will be mailed to her family. I especially like these cards because they make for a great keepsake. This tradition seems to be popular in our community since we first started it a few years back. When our doxies pass, all we have are our memories and pictures. With your help Bailey’s family can have a few more pictures and know they’re not alone during this difficult time. My only request, in order to make it cost efficient for the charity, please ensure your donation is $10 or more which includes original artwork, postage, delivery and labor. I do believe these postcards are better and more personalized than a casserole or flowers.

Hello dachshund friends. Today’s featured photos are some outtakes from our ongoing holiday shoot. Working with a white flocked tree comes with its challenges, but it always fun to play and see the varied end results – especially with the always regal doxie model Rufus. What do you think friends?! Earlier this week we received a text from our friend saying Lenny went to the Rainbow Bridge. If you remember this past summer Lenny had some serious health problems. Lenny and his humans did their best to celebrate these last months together; he was pampered, cuddled and loved to the very end. The hardest part is naturally for those of us left behind.
I have recently been playing with my interpretation of dachshund iconography, and having fun with repetition, patterns and rhythm. I feel like the only thing better than one picture of our dachshund is a canvas filled with multiple images of our darling hounds.

One of my favorite parts of being a dachshund photographer, is capturing those precious slice of life moments that many of us dachshund humans can relate to and understand. Above we have Rufus staring outside on a sunny day and below we have Emily using Lily as a pillow during a lovely afternoon napping session. In both featured pictures they seem so happy and at peace which makes me smile big. Don’t you agree?! Make it a great one friends.

Today’s featured photos are affectionately called Lumberjack Rufus. Rufus in his camouflage hug-a-dog harness and red plaid hunting hat is so on trend and seasonally appropriate for our weekly hikes. My dachshunds truly dress for the occasion, whatever it may be. Have great one dachshund friends.

Thanksgiving may officially be over, but we continue to be thankful for so much. We’re especially thankful for our many dachshund friends. Earlier this month some canine pals (and their humans) surprised us with afternoon visit: Winter the black and tan and Scotty the piebald. They were donning their November best. Aren’t they adorable?! We’re grateful for all our friends – four legged and two legged.
