Celebrating the first day of November with a favorite of ours: Winter. Winter is a striking black and tan smooth dachshund that reminds us beauty is something that exist in all seasons. I really enjoyed photographing this precious pup. The camera loves her, and it’s easy to see why. What do you think friends?!? Rufus, Emily & Lily want to wish everyone a very Happy Halloweenie!!!
Here is today’s personal dachshund share: Obviously Father Time is catching up with me because I totally forgot YESTERDAY (Oct. 30) was the 11th Anniversary of getting Rufus. He was born on August 21, but we first met Rufus (and subsequently took him home) on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004. We has just gotten back from wrapping a film in NYC, and after a year and half of debate and consideration, we finally decided the time was right (or as right as it would ever be). AND our lives changed forever.
Okay friends. Please be safe and keep those toxic chocolates out of our chowhounds’ reach. Additionally, Halloween with all of it doorbell rings and knocks can be a taxing time for our hounds, so give them a good long walk before the night’s festivities begin. And, if you’re like me, try to be beat the trick and treaters to the bell. When I see them coming up the driveway I usually rush to meet them outside. Have a great holiday and enjoy the photos.

Oh my gosh, these photos make me laugh so much. I’m not big on celebrating Halloween personally (I’m more of a Christmas guy), but I do sincerely enjoy dressing my hounds up for the occasion. These wigs were supposed to only be part of a bigger costume I had planned, but I thought they were so amazingly funny all by themselves that I didn’t want to mess it up by adding anything else. I mean, it is the one time of the year when many folks do drag so… I guess this is my interpretation of it – hot doggie style.

It can sometimes be a struggle to leave the computer and get outside and move – especially as the days get shorter. Our dachshunds make it a little easier though, because even when we think we don’t have the time, those big round eyes tell us differently. So taking their huge hint, I made the time today for us to go out and get some much needed exercise. It has been almost four full weeks since we have been out to the beach (or anywhere significantly fun besides our local dog park). If you remember correctly, we took some time off because Rufus was having some back concerns. Luckily he has completed his laser light therapy and appears to be walking normal again. Nonetheless, today was also a learning experience for me. In the past, we often will hit the beach hard and fast, covering a lot of distance with a lot of running. Today, being highly aware of Rufus newly healed body, I didn’t want to facility a relapse so… we took it nice and slow and easy. The beach excursion was just as enjoyable as previous visits, but we took more time to explore the funny smells instead of running from end to end. It was truly a beautiful day for the beach here in Southern California. The temperature was perfect (not too hot or too cold). Today (or at least early this morning, who knows what the afternoon will bring) feels like Fall, which is a feat in sunny and warm Southern California. Well, it’s only three more day until Halloween. Sunday was LA Doxies‘ Halloweenie meetup. We had about 40 dogs and their humans, and despite the threat of rain, it turned out to be a picture perfect day for us. I was so inspired by all the canine costume cuteness that I spent most of the day reviewing and editing the 1,200 photos I took. I just couldn’t help myself; once I started I couldn’t stop. These photos are from a week ago at our Ojai Doxies‘ monthly meetup. Since it’s October we encouraged our friends to dress them handsome hounds up. What I like most about these costumes are their simplicity. Yes, the internet is full of elaborated, creative and complicate dog costumes but… you can be equally creative while keeping it simple and easy for our cute canines that have to wear them. We have no human children, but I really like that my mom makes an effort to be affectionate with our furkids. In our mind she’s their grandma, and although my mom is not an extreme dog personality (like myself) she appreciates how much they mean to us. Besides, my baby brother has done well to give her 5 human grandkids so… I think in many ways she likes the change of pace when she visits us. And when she’s here, she does her best to be doting with her grandpups and that makes us happy. Mom even joined us for our dachshund monthly meetup this past Sunday and got to meet some of our wonderful friends. Our dogs are not simply pets, but members of the family and we treat them as such in our home and expect those that visit to do the same. Thankfully, my mom does it happily. I’ll happily admit it, I probably didn’t to get to play dressup with dolls enough as a small boy growing up. Thankfully my dachshunds today allow me to satisfy that need as an adult. My pack has a very extensive wardrobe, as many of you already know, and we particularly like Halloween. We have a lot of costumes on hand. I can’t help it. I simply can’t decide on one so I end up getting them all. I find it so amusing to see them dressed up as different little characters. It makes me laugh and they’re always a great sport about it, probably because they’re always handsomely compensated with treats. Even so, I don’t think my style hounds are bothered much by it. In fact, I know they’re not. Often times when I pull out the clothes, they all seem to fight over who will be the lucky pup. This time, Emily won. I just thought this pink zebra outfit would be a good complement against her natural black coat. Once I put it on, I immediately thought: Zebra Punk! What do you think friends!?
