Bonded pairs – el fin

Jake & Kaia | June 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

We end our tribute to bonded pairs with Jake and Kaia and Theo and Gracie. Jake and Kaia have been featured before individually, but this is Theo and Gracie’s debut. Theo, the black and tan, and Gracie a vibrant red are both rescues, and they are a bonded pair that developed only in recently. Theo was a lone doxie for several years, but once Gracie was discovered the family unit was complete.

Bonded pairs part deux

Leo & Polie | February 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Continuing yesterday’s theme of bonded pairs, I present the following chocolates: Polie and Leo and Laci and Max. A chocolate dapple longhair, 2 smooth chocolates and one smooth chocolate dapple – with all that mentioning of chocolate I felt like I was listing the ingredients for a sundae. Well there’s obviously no ice cream in sight, but I assure you these four are sweet enough to cause a cavity.  Here is a special video of Rufus and Emily playing as a bonded doxie pair.

Bonded pairs

Today’s post pays tribute to two bonded pairs: Rufus and Emily and their friends Wes and Griz. I had a lone doxie for 7 and a half years, and Rufus was a fantastic only child. However, I do believe 2 is the magic number. After all, one is the loneliest number you’ll ever do. What’s your preferred doxie number?

Seal, the blue doxie

Seal | March 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Blue dachshunds often remind me of Weimaraners or the grey ghosts as they’re affectionately referred. Although Seal conjures images of another breed for me, rest assured his personality is all dachshund. At the time of the photos Seal was a mere 11 months. What’s your favorite color of doxie?

Howling doxies

Some dachshunds howl. Ginger and Rusty were gracious enough to do it on cue for me during our photo shoot last May; they provided some pretty fun shots. At the time of the photos Rusty and Ginger were both 6.

Fearless doxies

Rufus | May 2012. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

As our tribute to summer fun comes to an end (for now), our Sunday showcase features Rufus and Emily being fearless on the speed boat. My dachshunds never cease to amaze me. When I got on my first speed boat decades ago, I remember having some trepidation and fear about falling overboard. These fears were seemingly absent in Rufus and Emily who travel the boat’s outer edge like a well-balanced cat.

Rufus’ Titanic movie experience

If you have seen the James Cameron’s film Titanic, then you know the fame scene where Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio are standing on the bow of the boat feeling the wind against their bodies (or something like that). Well Rufus, speed boat veteran, was fearless on our last trip to Lake Arrowhead; he really enjoyed standing at the bow of the boat and letting his ears fly in the wind. Here is a short of video of fearless Rufus and his cautious dad holding tight for good measure.

Bailey the piebald

Bailey | May 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Bailey turned 7 this past May, and today’s post is dedicated to this distinctive stunningly marked piebald dachshund. His is coat is an eye turner and his personality is shy but super sweet. I really enjoyed getting to know him last year.

Lake Arrowhead on Tuesday and Huntington Dog Beach on Wednesday, Emily is living the posh life of a Southern Californian doxie.  Here’s a video of Emily & Rufus enjoying the beach.
