I absolutely love showing my dachshunds the world outside of their own backyard. They always seem so happy exploring, smelling new scents and being my companion wherever we go. I especially love to visit our favorite hiking trail after a recent downpour and during the early afternoon when it’s empty. My dachshunds and I have done this hike 33 times in the last 57 days; it’s truly a favorite of ours and only because I know the trail and my dachshunds well do I feel comfortable taking them off leash. Remember safety first. Have a wonderful day doxie friends.

I agree. I love showing my dogs that there’s a big world outside of their home and yard.
What lovely pictures of my most favorite Doxies (other than my own)! Thank you always for brightening my day!
Awe. Thanks!
Doxies are hunters. They have a strong prey drive so the walks you take your little ones on are also a great work out for their noses. They alert to things that we humans cannot see. I once took Gretchen for a medium length walk and she suddenly went into overdrive sniffing but she was acting strange. Up ahead was a chunk of a deer I think that was skinned and just thrown there. I called the police to check it out. It was called in as animal. I had the chance to watch Gretchen in action and she was good! Several years ago I lived in a different part of FL and those little green lizards were everywhere. Gretchen’s prey drive kicked in hunting for those. She would be so focused on following the trail that sometimes she would get over heated. I would pick her up and take her into the house to cool off and to have some water. She was so intent on getting herself a lizard that she seemed focused on that alone. She gifted me with two lizards. I praised her. How fun it is to see your little ones enjoying the best sniff in the area.

Driven and focused is right!! My 14 yr. old girl, Polo, won’t eat, sleep, or drink for days if a critter has been in our yard overnight! I have to pick her up, carry her in and block the doggy door to keep her in long enough to calm down ….she is so driven to hunt that trail!!
