Yesterday a fan posted a laundry basket full of wirehair puppies on our DOGS’ Facebook page, and it reminded me of the wirehair puppies I photographed last year. Four days and counting until Valentine’s Day. I think this hallmark holiday means different things to different people. For our purposes on Rufusonthweb, we’re choosing to use the occasion to celebrate our grand love for the dachshund breed. I know of no better way to express my deep admiration than by showcasing two of my faves: Rufus & Emily. These dapper looking doxies sincerely melt my heart daily with just a look.

Yesterday I wrote about my pups enjoying the sun – a common occurrence in Southern California, but I failed to realize there was a big blizzard hitting the east coast. We naturally didn’t mean to be insensitive to our friends and family suffering freezing temperatures and the varied conditions accompanied by them. So in a show of solidarity to our friends everywhere, I searched my archives to retrieve these photos taken in New Mexico a few years back. Rufus has experienced snow many times, and seems to enjoy it in small doses. Emily has yet to feel snow under her paws, but I hope to remedy that this year. To all of our friends back east, please stay warm and dry.

I was browsing Facebook yesterday and took note of several folks posting pictures of their doxies in the snow. I don’t have any photos of my pups playing in the snow, but these were taken earlier this week of my two soaking up some rays. I think given the choice mine prefer the sun to the snow. How about yours?! Paws cross that the sun stays and we evade the possible rain forecasted.

After four days of the lovely longhair pack, it’s time to switch the channel back to our classic smooth dachshund: Emily. Hasn’t Emily blossomed into a beautiful young doxie?! I love her clear, bright eyes and that pensive furrowed brow she gets sometimes. For me the true beauty in the dachshund breed is in all the small and sweet details.

For the last three days we’ve been enjoying the beauty of the longhairs: Ryker, Jorde and Kyrra. Nearly all dachshunds I photograph are friends of Rufus and Emily, and that is certainly true here. Emily, Jorde and Kyrra gave way to chase most of the afternoon and wrestled (when they weren’t posing for me); while Rufus and Ryker were good watch dachshunds and referees. Here are a few shots I snagged of Rufus and Emily with their friends. We look forward to future play dates and pictures with the longhair trio. Happy Wiener Dog Wednesday.

You’ve met the boys (Ryker and Jorde) and now it’s time to meet their sister Kyrra, the longhair piebald doxie. I believe Kyrra is the youngest of the three, but they’re all equally good looking, I think. These three dachshunds all belong to one pack and family, what a lucky family – hum?!
