The dachshund form

Part of being a devoted doxie-holic is really appreciating the dachshund form. I absolutely love it. I adore the silhouette of the elongated body, the framing of the face with the floppy ears and the cute dwarfed legs. I think part of the dachshund’s charm is its recognizable shape. It’s truly distinct. What do you think!? Big thanks to Rufus for being today’s dachshund model.

DOGS T-shirt

A D.O.G.S and Sugar Bear Designs collaboration for charity.

A D.O.G.S and Sugar Bear Designs collaboration for charity.

It is my pleasure to announce a D.O.G.S and Sugar Bear Designs collaboration for charity. I joined forces with fellow photographer Kristin Adams to create the premiere DOGS T-shirt.  Adams took an original image of mine and created this limited edition T-shirt. The shirt is a canvas made in the USA unisex tee, and it is our gift to anyone making a tax-deductible donation of $40 (which includes shipping and Paypal fees). We only produced a total of 50 shirts and when they’re gone, that’s it. You can only get this shirt here, so don’t miss out. Get yours today.

The shirts are in transit from Colorado and will be in California this Friday; we’ll begin shipping them on Tuesday, May 28. These are the sizes and quantities the charity is offering. They will be distributed on a first-come and first-serve basis. If your preferred size is out of stock you’ll be contacted for an alternate size (if one is not already indicated).

XS – 6
S – 12
M – 13
L – 10
XL – 6
2XL – 3

After much consideration and debate, the featured dachshund is Frankie, the red smooth dachshund I photographed in 2011 and again recently.  What do you think?!  Do you like it?!  Its arrival is perfectly timed with Father’s Day (June 16) – hint, hint. Make your tax-deductible donation today by clicking here, and have your shirt by next week.

Happy Adopt-a-versary Jake

I’m a dachshund photographer and artist. I only photograph dachshunds and use those original images to create photo art that celebrates the dachshund form and personality. However, every artist will make certain concessions from time to time, as I have done. Jake the doxie-mix is one of the few non-purebred dachshunds I have photographed, and not only did I photograph him and his sister Kaia but he is featured on the cover of my book and masthead of my website.

Jake and his sister hold a special place in my heart, because in 2011 when I photographed 100+ dachshunds in 26 weeks it all started with one pair – Jake and Kaia. They were the very first dachshunds I photographed when my book 102 Dachshunds was not even a realized idea but something back in my subconsciousness.

Moreover, Jake is special to me because he was the first “dachshund” with whom I got a first-hand up-and-close look at the notorious back surgery, IVDD disease and recovery process. Jake met his humans 6 years ago today at a local adoption fair. I personally couldn’t imagine a finer dog, and the world is better because he is in it.  Happy Adopt-a-versary Jake!  May there be many more returns.

Emily’s floppy ears

I heart Emily’s big floppy ears and bright brown eyes. She’s my brown-eyed girl. This was Emily at yesterday’s LA Doxies May Meetup soaking up the sun and enjoying the lush green grass. It really was a perfect day for it. The weather in SoCal has been pretty great, and I hope everyone else is getting their share of sunshine. Happy Monday!

Rufus and Emily’s friends: Polie and Leo in their Sunday’s best.  The smooth chocolate and longhair chocolate dapple make it looks so easy to be cute.  What do you think!?

Dachshund, doxie, wiener dogs, hot dogs, teckels, badger hunters, sausage dogs, low riders – whatever you call them, I adore them. Have a wonderful day.

Dexie and Frankie belong to human sisters so they’re cousins in my mind. Together the two reds posed for some wonderful pictures. I think it’s fun to have a rainbow coalition of dachshunds – of varied colors and coats, but I also think it’s rather regal to see a pair of the same coat and color. What do you think!?  Do you prefer matching doxies or different ones?!

Abbey and Dexie came all the way from Washington State to be photographed this week. I meet Abbey and her mom when she lived in Southern California, and I first photographed Abbey in 2011. However, since then Abbey and mom have moved and expanded the pack to include Dexie. I met Dexie at last year’s LA Doxies’ holiday celebration and finally got to spend some quality time with her this past Monday during our play date and photo shoot. I have some sweet solo photos of Dexie forthcoming, but today it’s all about the pair. I’m naturally a fan of the classic red and black and tan pairing (Rufus and Emily), so it was my pleasure to photograph the duo. What do you think?! Adorable!? I personally have never met a dachshund that I didn’t like, but these doxie girls were particularly precious and well mannered. They’re welcome back anytime.
