Rufus & Milo

Before there was Emily, it was strictly the boy’s club with Rufus & Milo. It’s fun watching the dynamic in the house evolve with a female pup around, but Rufus and Milo remain the first ODs – “original doxies” on the scene. Today’s post is a tribute to the duo and their 6-month friendship together before Emily’s arrival.

Bernie, another classic red

Meet Rufus’ friend Bernie. Bernie visited us in June 2011, and the wiggly, high-energy pup was a treat to photograph. I love his black button nose and bright brown eyes. Bernie was 4 at the time.

Emily and her sister

Sunday was a magnificent day for many reasons. One, we formally adopted Emily Sue from Dachshund Rescue & Placement, the adorable smooth black and tan 9-week-old pup. Second, Emily got a chance to roughhouse with her sister this afternoon; which was the first time they have seen each other in 7 days. Lastly but not least, Emily’s sister was also adopted and named today. Her name is going to be Myfawnwy. It’s Welsh. All four puppies from Emily’s liter have now been officially adopted. What a superb day indeed.

Sticks

You can spend all the money you have on designer dog toys and at the end of the day the toy that gets the most attention, despite one’s protest, is a common, ordinary, every-day run of the mill stick you find in the backyard.  Dogs, you have to love their ability to find joy in life’s simple pleasures.

LA bathroooms

I love old LA bathrooms. The original tile and colors are very fun to photograph, especially when you add a dachshund or two.

Emily got a clean bill of health on Tuesday and celebrates 9 weeks old on Friday. She still has that new puppy smell.

Dachshunds and stairs

No matter your opinion on dachshunds and stairs, two things are certain: 1) doxies posing on stairs is adorable and 2) the backstairs of some homes make for prime sunbathing. Apparently some staircases and dachshunds do make for excellent bedfellows.

Playing fetch

Rufus and I regularly visit dog parks throughout LA County and often ask our friends to join. Of course, when one arrives at the dog park, what’s one to do – but play fetch with whatever one finds.
