Fred

I first met Fred the longhair low-riding hound at a public dog park years ago and immediately felt sorry for the doxie with two paralyzed back legs. I then photographed him last April and learned firsthand how agile the dachshund truly was. Apparently no one told him his back legs didn’t work, because he moved throughout my house with ease and elegance. One month shy of his 17th birthday, Fred crossed over to the rainbow bridge earlier this week. We send our condolences to the family and remember Fred for the spirited doxie he was. Rest in peace Fred; I’m honored to have known you.

Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals finalist Kaia, the smooth black and tan doxie from Glendale CA, was in North Hollywood yesterday signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans. All of her friends and fans at LA Doxies are so proud of her. Congrats to Kaia for her accomplishment and doing it with such grace and style.

Lenny

Meet Lenny, Laci’s brother. Lenny is a rescue that joined the Laci family earlier this year. When I photographed him last week he showed a very vulnerable and endearing side of his personality. His eyes are very soulful to me.

Laci

Introducing Laci the red dapple doxie. Laci is really a stunningly beautiful dachshund. When you meet doxies at the dog park and they’re running and playing, their beauty can easily be overlooked. When you have a the chance to “be” with a doxie, one on one at your home or other quiet place, you see a different more complete picture of the dog. I remain a fan of the classic reds. What do you think?

Emmett

This week I got the opportunity to meet Emmett a 13 year-old red smooth dachshund recently diagnosed with severe heart problems. His mother fears that his prognoses will probably prematurely end his life with congestive heart failure. So, I did my best to immortalize the beautiful soul of Emmett in these photos. Today let’s celebrate Emmett, his life past, present and future.  May the days to come be more than they predict.

Doxie races

Emily & Myfanwy | July 2012. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

This Saturday is the 17th Annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals and among the competitors is Kaia a Rufus on the Web.com regular. Yesterday during a play date and photo shoot, we had our very own races with two adorable black and tans. In the backyard Emily and her twin sister Myfanwy entertainingly gave way to chase most of the day. Today’s post is dedicated to Kaia and all the racing doxies. May the fastest doxie win, and may all their humans enjoy themselves and their dachshunds.

Preston | June 2011. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

I have no special effects or gimmicks, but my doxies always bring me luck so I know of no better thing to offer you than some darling dachshunds on this notoriously superstitious holiday. May the luck for the doxie be with you all day. The gorgeous longhair doxie is Preston.
