Doxie rescue alert: Barbie & Beau

Yesterday I got to meet two adorable rescues: Barbie the red smooth and Beau the one-eyed red longhair. Barbie seemingly smiles she’s so happy. Some may consider Beau handicap with only one eye, but no one apparently told him because he doesn’t seem to be slowed by it. Both doxies’ adoptions are being overseen by Dachshund Rescue Placement and Rescue. Interested people should complete an online application. For a special Flickr slideshow click here: Barbie & Beau. High Hopes cupcakes

We have been celebrating Rufus’ birthday all week long and one of his gifts was High Hopes Celebration Cupcakes. I baked and served, and the pups loved them. Probably none more so than Milo, as evident by the photos. Dachshunds can be total pigs given the opportunity. The dachshund community has been a real friend to Rufus and me. Thanks to LA Doxies, our local meetup group, we’ve made lasting friendships with people whom we might have never known if it wasn’t for our mutual love and affection for the dachshund breed. Now with RufusontheWeb.com and DOGS, we have been afforded more opportunities to meet fellow doxie-holics near and far, and we cherish it. Among those early and lasting friendships include Polie. He and Rufus are best buds for several years now and always photograph nicely together. Do you agree?

Backyard watching

In the South it’s tradition to sit out on the front porch for hours and watch the community. I think it’s similar for Rufus and Milo as they sit on the backdoor threshold and watch and listen to the varied sounds of the neighborhood. Many times they seem to be kindred spirits.

Happy Birthday Rufus!

Today Rufus celebrates 8 wonderful years of life. My adorable red regal smooth miniature dachshund Rufus was whelped on this day and changed my world forever. Rufus has served as my motivation to spearhead LA Doxies, our local monthly meetup group now in its 8 year as well. He is also the inspiration for the newly formed global nonprofit Dachshund Outreach Giving and Socialization (DOGS) dedicated to educating our doxie loving community at large on matters of health, diet and the supreme importance of regular socialization.

Rufus has enriched my life beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I love you Rufus, and I trust this is only one of many more still to come. Happy Birthday Rufus!!!
