This week our friend Melissa gave us some refurbished pet stairs. We weren’t necessarily in the market for them, but I think they ended up making a nice addition to our home. They also made for a great photo prop. I thought the best way to say thanks was to showcase them in your weekly Rufus & Emily update. Thanks Melissa!

Jake is a long-time friend of ours from LA DOXIES, and today’s post is dedicated to this doxie mix because he had back surgery in December. Back problems in dachshunds are common, but it doesn’t make it any easier when it happens. Jake is an inspiration to me, because from the looks of it, he has made a nearly full recovery. Yesterday was our first play date with Jake since his surgery. Jake gives me hope that should the day come, we just might survive it if we act fast. Milo celebrates his 1 year birthday this week, and it has been an amazing journey to watch this rambunctious pup transform into a genuine dachshund. Happy Birthday Milo!

Dachshunds continue to be among the 10 most popular breeds in the United States because it’s so diverse. They are three coats types (smooth, longhair and wirehair), two main sizes (minis and standards) and an infinite number of color combinations. Today we’re showcasing a few wirehairs.

Rufus has an obsession: squirrels. A backyard with several fully mature trees and few saplings keeps Rufus busy many days. Each visit outside requires careful inspection of the tree trunks, potted plants and complete grounds.

When I’m not photographing my own brood, I like to help our doxies in need. Statistics prove that a good picture often helps in placing these abandoned and neglected doxies. This week I got the chance to meet Ambrose the black wirehair doxie and Malcolm the red longhair doxie. Ambrose is a handsome slightly reserved tweenie. Malcolm recently had a benign fatty tumor removed and is a real sweetheart. Interested people should complete an application with Southern California Dachshund Relief. Schnitzel, the black and tan smooth dapple doxie, demonstrates the fame dachshund position many affectionately call “sitting pretty.” Rufus naturally had to join in on the fun.
