Can you believe August is nearly here and the summer is almost over? Well Rufus and Emily want to remind you to seize the day. The countdown to fall may have already started, but the point is, let’s make the last of the season awesome. In fact, we’re going back to the beach today, and we encourage you all to get out this Sunday with your doxies and do something summer-tastic together.

Rescued earlier this year from Southern California Dachshund Relief, this darling doxie is stunningly handsome and fun. I enjoy photographing doxies in pairs and other groupings, but sometimes a dachshund deserves the spotlight all to himself. Basil the smooth red sable dachshund was a real treat to shoot.  Hope he makes you smile as much as he made me.

Emily & Rufus at Joshua Tree

One of the things I enjoyed most about the Joshua Tree trip was watching Emily and Rufus really solidify their bond. Rufus is more of a people or person dog; he likes to be with his humans. Whereas Emily went from her mother and littermates to a foster home with multiple doxies, and then to our home with a revolving door of doxies. Emily is definitely a dog’s dog and enjoys the company of other doxies. She loves Rufus and it’s nice to see him being accepting of her. They shared some real sweet moments on this trip.

Joshua Tree continued

Family vacations are fun. One of my favorite parts about returning home from a trip is revisiting the experience via pictures. The photos often make the memories seem that much sweeter for me. I love showing our dachshunds the world outside of our home, backyard and usual haunts.  As best as I can tell from the photos, they really seem to have liked the desert and all it offered. Excellent!

Joshua Tree excursion

We’re huge advocates for including our dachshunds on our family vacations, and this summer we decided the calm desert of Joshua Tree and 29 Palms would be a fun place to take the kids. The varied small vermin running about and all the new smells proved to be very entertaining for our two doxies. The threat of rattlesnakes and coyotes forced me to be extra vigilant at dawn and dusk, but Rufus and Emily seemed to be indifferent to any potential danger. They were fearless and consistently curious; they were characteristically true dachshunds!

Seeing double

When we adopted Emily in January one of her three sisters was adopted by friends, and I got a chance to photograph them together earlier this month. The two sisters are lovely and seemed to get along nicely. If you know what to look for you can tell them apart, but to the untrained eye they nearly look identical. What do you think?  Myfanwy and Emily will be 8 months in a few days.

Bertie is Bailey’s recently rescued sister. Bertie was a sweet heart and got along nicely with Emily. I particularly enjoyed her eyes and ears, the both seemed very expressive.

Photographing multiple dachshunds is always a challenge, but I enjoy it. Even if the pictures turnout a little blurry, I still find value in them. Anytime a photo makes me smile, I think it’s a success and these did. What do you think?
