Black doxies

Popular superstition suggests black cats are bad luck. They’re also popular props during the Halloween season. In absence of black cats, how about black doxies?! Well I’m not one for superstition, and I can’t imagine these two adorable black and tans being anything but good luck. Nonetheless, let the Halloween celebrations begin – dachshund style.

Rufus’ cavalier attitude

Rufus’ cavalier attitude toward wearing clothing at my request is very entertaining for me. I think his indifferent comes across in the photos. He is never bitter or angry, but instead he often comes across very arrogant – as though he is telling me, “Okay. Let do this. Give me my treat, snap your shot and let’s get back to sitting on the couch.”  Rufus is definitely one of my best models; we always get the shot fast. Rufus knows what he is doing in front of the camera and lights.

Last week we showcased Emily in her red hooded, ear monkey sweater. Well… as I was visiting another favorite local pet supply store, I stumbled upon this one. Rufus looks smashing in it, I think, so I had to have it. My doxies always keep me laughing and smiling. Hopefully they’re keeping you tickled as well.

It’s an Emily kind of day. She’ll be 11 months on October 25 and as she approaches her 1 year birthday I’m amazed how she has blossomed from this little roly poly to this beautiful, long-bodied dachshund. We’re so proud.

Rescue doxie alert

Today we’re showcasing three rescue dachshunds in need of their forever home. Elizabeth the black and tan, Charlotte and Renee. I’m sorry but I can’t remember which is which (of the latter). Today is my 300th consecutive post featuring my original photographs of dachshunds. When we celebrated 100, the coveted spot went to Rufus. When we reached 200 we marked the occasion with a special sale and fundraiser. Today’s milestone goes to Emily.

Our doxies are an extension of us and our style. Emily is my first female dachshund and I’m not really feeling the dresses for dogs. So I’m always looking for other ways to express and embrace her femininity. When I found this faux fur shrug and hooded sweater with cute ear accents, I knew it was perfect for my little girl. What do you think?  Isn’t my princess adorable.

An Emily day

After all the hype of yesterday’s squirrel escapade and attention given to our mighty champion hunter Rufus, today is all about the sweet and demure Emily. I love Rufus and he will forever be my prince, but each day I fall a little more in love with Emily. Rufus was instantly brilliant and has maintained it all these years, but Emily seems to be like a fine wine; she simply gets better with age.
