Today we got a very sad phone call from our friend saying his dachshunds Rex, Seal and Charlie were poisoned. The news was heartbreaking and infuriating; it’s hard to imagine that someone would be so cruel and malicious. To read all about the account please click here. It looks like the two blue dachshunds – Seal and Charlie, are going to be fine; however, Rex is still under review with a 50/50 chance that he’ll make it through the week. Please send all of your positive healing thoughts to Rex. He and his family can certainly use them. Hug your dachshunds tight today, and we’ll update later in the week via our Facebook page as we know more.

I am so, so sorry….in Houston, we have animal cruelty investigators with the SPCA (“Animal Cops Houston” on Animal Planet), perhaps there is something like this in your area? I am glad that 2 other commenters have ties to news media that can get the story out. Hope these low-lifes are caught and punished and that your three darling doxies get well soon.
Ryan and I are having such a hard time with the authorities not taking her seriously because it is such an obvious crime. I wonder if there is any action she can take after the construction company. So angering! !!!

All my love to the beautiful babies!!!! 4 of my 6 are mini doxies. I love them all to pieces and can’t imagine someone so evil as to inflict harm on them or anyone elses pets. There is a reason I prefer the company of my doggies……..too many @$$ holes in the world who think cruelty is funny and entertaining. Prayers for complete recovery for all and prayers that the evil sob will be punished.

While I support the message to be aware of poisons… I question the authenticity of the story as at least a portion of it is an outright work of fiction. The author of the referenced new article tells the take of how Rex lost an ear to a mountain lion attack in upstate new York…. While mountain lions are common in California… According to the NY dept of environmental conservation mountain lions have not been in new York state since the 1800’s therefore the story of how Rex lost an ear is completely made up…. If one part of the story is proven to be made up how can one believe any of it?
John – the poison part is accurate and true. The mountain lion story is something that was passed down from the people who gave Rex to Mike. We have always doubted the accuracy of that tall tale, but the fact remains that he LOST one ear in some sort of incident (proof is in the pictures). Additionally, I believe Mike ONLY mentioned it because he wanted to demonstrate Rex is a survivor. Mike is a personal friend and the story of the poison is true. Thank you for the comments.
I am in absolute shock. As an animal lover and the mother of a doxie, I send love and prayer your way. I would absolutely find out what the company is and the names of their workers for that particular job. This is absolutely appalling that it is not considered a crime. My heart is breaking for you. I am so sorry for your loss.
People can be so cruel
I just don’t understand how people can be so cruel and evil. To poison sweet innocent dogs, is just unthinkable. it truly breaks my heart for the sweet dogs and their family. My heart goes out to them and I am praying for them all.
