Picking out the right costume for our pups is never easy for me. I am personally attracted to costumes that emphasize the elongated bodies of the dachshund – like a skunk or caterpillar. However, Rufus won two Halloween costume contest events wearing his Mexican bandito outfit. It was actually one of the very first costumes I bought Rufus. I also think it was one of the best $30 investments I made since I’ve gotten a lot of wear from it. I use it for Cinco de Mayo events as well. So naturally Emily had to carry on the tradition (see below).
Final share today. Rufus was born on Aug 21. 2004; but we brought our baby boy home on Saturday night, Oct. 30, 2004. Rufus has been in our lives and care for 8 wonderful years. Rufus is my favorite Halloween present of all time. I’m not big on celebrating Halloween generally and this year we’re planning to keep it low-key. Nonetheless, Halloween will forever be a special time of year for me. While the occasion is often associated with candy, ghost stories and costumes; it reminds me of the day my life changed forever. It will always be the first day of mine and Rufus’ journey together. Happy Halloween!!!
I’d love to see some pictures of Rufus as a little pup. I bet he was soo cute!

What great costumes.
I just discovered your blog. I have a weiner dog blog myself. I look forward to looking around more in the future. Adding you to our Feedreader.
Well welcome! We’re thrilled to have you. 🙂
To Adventureweiner: You will smile every day with the adorable photos and fantastic information that comes from Johnny’s Blog. I look forward to it daily! Mom of 3 Weenies, Virginia.
OMG The Bandito Outfits are out of this world Cute! Tonights costumes are awesome! Possible a Squirrel would have been more appropriate for Rufus’s Tastes ( wink wink) Emily Sue is the cutest little Caterpillar EVER! We got our Soby 2 years ago today on Halloween. He is our “needy” one and is probably the most spoiled by mom. 😛
Johnny, the costumes are great!!! I love them all!!! Do you have someone make them for you?
No. I think in order to successfully finding cute costumes, you have to have your doxie there – in person – to ensure the costume fits perfectly. Buying online might offer some savings but better to shop in person to ensure it fits. Additionally, if it doesn’t fit properly using a home sewing kit to make minor custom adjustments helps!! Good luck!
