Friends, our Pack Porch Portraits are being extended through Sunday, May 31, 2020. Let’s quickly review what I’ve done and why I’d done it, and if you haven’t already scheduled your own Pack Porch Portraits, do it now.
On Tuesday, April 28, we announced our #PetPassionProject and photographed our first Pack Porch Portrait on Thursday, April 30th. Over the next 16 days (April 30 through May 15); we photographed 31 Packs (families). We traveled over 1,208 miles; and we visited 21 different and distinct cities / towns / boroughs. And by our conservative estimates, we spent a total of 24 hours and 30 minutes driving (in those 16 days) and snapped a 16,847 photos. Wow. That certainly explains why I’ve been unusually tired these last few weeks. 😂✌🏼
The Perfect Storm. As all Southern California residents know, traffic is the bane of living here. However, with everyone staying home, it has afforded me this unique opportunity to quickly travel all over with unusual ease and haste. Additionally, with gas prices at an all time low, it has also been reasonably affordable to travel those 1,208 miles in 16 days. I could not do this project at these bargain basement prices under normal circumstances.
Food for the soul. When I started this project, I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I wasn’t sure how it would be received by our community. Thankfully, I have been pleasantly surprised. This pandemic has effected us all in different ways, and for some it has been harder than others. However, working on this project has given me a first-person accounting of our pooches and their people.
My favorite (and frequent) response has been, “you gave me something to look forward to.” In a time of uncertainty and confinement, it has been my pleasure and privilege to bring a little joy and levity to a heavy situation.
My intention. To be clear, I’m trying to responsibly create a historical record for future generations while paying tribute to our canine companions; the real beneficiaries of our stay home orders. We are living through a historical event, and I want to document it, in my way.
All packs are welcome. Normally, I exclusively specialize in photographing the long-bodied, short-legged, big personality sausage hounds and their humans, and I am often affectionately called the doxierazzie (paparazzi for the dachshund breed). But these are not normal times, and I have happily agreed to photograph all packs interested in participating. For the duration of this project, I’ve changed to the puparazzie (paparazzi for all pups and their people). Which has given me a special chance to included my fury friends and their families from many different and diverse backgrounds. And it seems fitting for this #PetPassionProject. 😁👍🏽
Last Call. All I know for sure, is that none of us really know when or how these safer-at-home orders will end, and when we’ll reopen completely. Be that as may, I have to put an end date on this project, and it will be Sunday, May 31, 2020. I could easily extended this project again (and again), but as we start to re-open and the traffic returns, that perfectly unique opportunity we’re experiencing due to these unprecedented circumstances will dissipate.
Moreover, this has been more work than I initially anticipated. On average, with travel time, photographing, downloading, editing and uploading, I spend two hours of work per client. With 31 clients that is 62 hours of labor at a deeply discounted price point. I’m happy to be in a position to do it, but it is not something I can sustain longterm. So schedule YOUR Pack Porch Portraits NOW while you still can, because soon enough this promotion will end and my regular premium rates will return.
Stay safe. Stay home (a little longer). Wash your hands. Wear your face masks. And, remember you’re worth the extra effort and care. Your health and well-being and the well-being of others is worth it. ❤️ #BetterToBeSafeThanSorry
I look forward to sharing more #PackPorchPortraits so stay tuned, and stay well friends. Sending virtual hugs and tail wags from my pack of hounds and their humans to you and yours. ❤️❤️❤️
