Good times and bum times,

we’ve seen them all and,

my dear, he’s still here!!!

Wednesday, Aug. 21st, Rufus celebrated his 15th birthday. What an absolutely beautiful milestone. We’re so grateful for it. ❤

We commemorated the midweek, midday occasion with a 2 hour dog park visit with a small circle of friends followed by an hour and half lunch at the local dog-friendly Lazy Dog Restaurant. It was super sweet to be surrounded by friendly faces and hear their favorite Rufus stories. ❤

We left the girls at home with dad #1, and it was a nice, all-about Rufus afternoon. I think what I liked most, was the lunch. As we ordered entrees for humans and hounds, three dotting dachshund parents shared their experiences of their dogs who all had gone to the Rainbow Bridge. Hearing their life stories, gave me great insight and comfort.

It’s hard because we continue to experience supreme moments of extreme satisfaction and content, and moments of deep sadness. I’m personally working very hard to not waste any time being sad; not while Rufus is still alive. I want to cherish each and every day we have left. AND to our great surprise, Rufus has really rallied these last two weeks. He’s consistently eating (beef only; filet mignon to be precise) and gives an outer appearance that all is well and normal. 🙂

I believe the bi-weekly subcutaneous fluids are helping. Right now Rufus is in a holding pattern, and we’re grateful for it. His health could (and will) take turn (eventually) but for the moment, we’re happy to have him here and healthy(ish). #QualityofLifeOverQuantityofLife

Thanks friends for your continued love and support. Hope you and yours had a very happy Labor Day weekend. We did. 🙂

❤️❤️

I am so, so happy to hear that Rufus is hanging in there! I know you are doing your best to live in the moment & enjoy the time with him, it is so hard when you get a terrible diagnosis like this to not worry & be sad. So, so hard, but the best for him if you can do it! He will feel the positive vibes & love & I believe it helps him. Still, I know that is easier said then done. I will be sending prayers that he will continue to have many more good days weeks, months. Take care.
