Rufus’ friends are not exclusively dachshunds. Kassi and Zarek King, sister and brother, are two of his human friends.

Rufus & Milo, the dynamic red duo

At 7 years old Rufus brings wisdom and experience while Milo at a mere 10 months (today) keeps each day fresh with his puppy mischief. Like a typical big brother, Rufus can easily get annoyed with Milo and his limitless energy, but there are those super sweet moments when the two really enjoy each other and pose for a picture.

Napoleon Bones-a-parte Don’t-call-me-Dynamite Chu, or Polie to his friends, is a smooth chocolate dachshund with a unique crooked tail. Polie and Rufus have been friends for about five years.

Rufus, pop of color

What a feeling, bein's believin'. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Following the Brad Goreski trend of introducing pops of color to your wardrobe, Rufus sports his 1980s Jennifer Beals Flashdance inspired sweatshirt. Big thanks to Joy Brunn from Dachshund Rescue and Placement for the great gift.

In 2011, I spent 26 weeks photographing 102 dachshunds at my home in Hollywood. Throughout 2012, I’ll be sharing some of these photos with you. Today I’m showcasing the two red long hair dachshunds Daisy and Sammy.

Rufus and those pesky squirrels

Rufus exhibits true characteristics of a hound dog, and watching him chase after the two taunting neighborhood squirrels daily is like watching a scene from the Tom and Jerry cartoon series. Hilarious. Despite his unyielding effort he is always a few seconds late or a few inches short of snagging that squirrel.

Kaia, the smooth female black and tan doxie

A female black and tan doxie

Kaia is on high alert. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

In preparation for our 8-week female foster pup arriving in two weeks, we have hosted a handful of female doxie play dates for Rufus and Milo to get a glimpse of what it will be like to expand the family.  Not coincidentally, the foster pups are female black and tans.

Whatever Kaia lacks in personality, who also was a rescue and can be cantankerous at times, certainly makes up for it with her beauty. I belive she’s a fine example of a black and tan dachshund

Rufus and family will be fostering an 8-week old female doxie pup later this month and in preparation we have been hosting some female doxie play dates. Sydney is described by her mom as, “red long hair with a lot of blonde fluff and black accents.” I think she’s simply adorable.

Milo

Milo is an adorable 9-month-old puppy. He is still a little camera shy, but I believe he will blossom into a beautiful adult doxie.

Fall in Southern California, dachshund style

Rufus plays in the leaves. Photo by: Johnny Ortez-Tibbels

Despite what some may believe, Fall does come to Southern California. It’s true it doesn’t often snow or rain, but for the few trees that aren’t Palm Trees, we do experience a change of color and litter of foliage.
